Degree The American Studies Program offers an examination of the basic institutions and fundamental trends in United States culture.The aim is to address the pressing questions of our time with a broad understanding of the institutions and trends. An American Studies Program is available at many UCs and CSUs. Usually, students need to take an introductory course when they transfer to the campus of their choice. American Studies is an interdisciplinary program that in most cases does not require specific lower division preparation. Learning Outcomes The Cabrillo College Core Competencies (with an emphasis in the study of American Studies): 1. Communication: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and/or Conversing 2. Critical Thinking and Information Competency: Analysis, Computation, Research, Problem Solving 3.
