eveningsonAugust22and29,therehearsalswillendat10:00p.m.Thesearetheonlytimesallyearthatwillhaveextended
rehearsaltimes.WedonotmeetonLaborDay,Monday,September5,soweloseanimportantrehearsalbeforeourSeptember13
firstconcert.Yes,weplayanentireconcertafterjustthreeweeksofrehearsal.
Severalofyou,especially freshmen,willhaveChemistry Iexamconflictsduringafewof theMondayeveningrehearsals.Though
not ideal, it'sanunavoidable conflict thatweworkaround. Youtakeyourexamand thencome immediately to rehearsal.
All string students will be required to performa five-minuteaudition on Friday,August 19.ClassesbeginonMon/22and
thefirstorchestra rehearsalisMon/22 7:30-10:00 p.m.Youwillsign upfortheauditionbysending meanemaildlitmus@kstate.eduwithatwo-hourwindow ofpreference. I'll emailyouanassignedauditiontime.The audition hoursare9:30a—3:45p
Friday,August19.We'llalsohaveafewauditions availableon Sunday/21 forthose whocannot possibly maketheFriday
audition time.
This isaseriousaudition.Should youraudition bebelowthestandard forsuccessfulparticipation inorchestra, youmay notbe
allowedtojointheOrchestra. Youshould treatthisasanaudition toremain/become a member of theOrchestra. Youhave
theseexcerptsforthreemonths,so there isreallynovalidexcuse forlackofpreparation,includingRush Weekforsororities.The
repertoire ischosen fromthefallconcerts. Allviolinists areauditioningwithaViolinIpart forthepurposes ofthisaudition.I
suggestyoupracticethese excerptsslowlyandcarefully whenbeginning thelearning process. Somefingeringsaresuggestedin
theparts,butyoumayaddyourown.IhaveattachedaPDFofpracticesuggestions.It’sobviousthatDr.CooperandIcan’t
possiblyhearalloftheexcerptsyouarereceiving.Nevertheless,youneedtobepreparedtoplayanyofthem.
