Sunflower Service Quarterly Winter 2014 Still time to register for 2014 Kansas Hunger Newman Dialogue The Kansas Hunger Dialogue is an annual KsCC event that engages students, faculty, administrators and community organizations in conversations about the role of higher education in fighting world hunger. The fourth dialogue will take place February 25-26 in downtown Wichita, with Robert Egger serving as this year's keynote speaker. This year's theme is engagement through modern technologies. Cindy Jones-Nyland, Executive Vice-President of Marketing and Resource Management at Heifer Project International, will speak about her own experiences related to this year's theme. One departure from previous hunger dialogues is the number of break-out sessions to choose from. Attendees can select from 14 break-outs during the four concurrent sessions, which will be lead by representatives from colleges, universities, and non-profit organizations from across the state, as well as one from outside of Kansas. FeelGood, whose mission is ending world hunger one Civic Fellows Nominations now being accepted Campus Compact is now accepting nominations for Newman Civic Fellows through March 6. The award recognizes student leaders with both the motivation and ability to make substantial contributions toward public problem solving—those that go beyond traditional service activities in their community involvement. They serve as national examples of the role that higher education can— and does—play in building a better world. Newman Civic Fellows are recommended by college and university presidents to acknowledge motivation and ability in public leadership. Each Introductory service-learning workshop to be held at FHSU Kansas Campus Compact will host the 2014 Service Learning Institute, which will be held March 4th on the Fort Hays State University campus in Hays, KS. Featuring professionals from institutions across the state, this event is ideal for faculty new to service-learning, but interested in implementing it into a Fall 2014 course. The Service Learning Institute will be held on the second floor of the FHSU Memorial Student Union, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and wrapping up at 3:00 p.m. with lunch provided. The event is free of charge for all KsCC member faculty, but space is limited.
