Presentation title is “Leveraging IoT for Smart City Infrastructure”. Abstract: From the aqueduct to the automobile, new technologies have always transformed the urban environment but often with unexpected negative affects to the environment. An important layer of the structure of any city are the Infrastructures that connects the city’s building stock and society with the Environment, the physical and geographic setting of the city. The design, construction and operation of infrastructures, such as for energy, waste, water, sanitation and transport, create a socio-technical environment that shapes the “way of life” of citizens. A greater level of social well-being using the same or fewer amounts of resources, or with fewer negative environmental impacts from the Infrastructures remains an untapped potential. IoT as a transformative technology has the potential to decouple environmental impacts from economic growth and urbanization.
