Learning Intention
Pupil voice
“Throughout the French presentations I have made
my French more fluent.”
“I have been able to use full sentences rather than
just words. This will help me in conversations if I go
to France of meet someone French and if I know
little words I can use them to make sentences.”
“The skills I have used while creating a French
presentation are confidently standing up and speaking in French and developing my fluency.”

presentation about the weather
in French.
Success Criteria



I can describe the weather in
a certain place and location
I can formulate sentences
correctly
I can speak with developing
fluency
Learning Statements
Learners can deliver a short
presentation about themselves
or a theme which interests them.
They may use support from ICT or
story boards for example.
Outline of activities
The pupils use weather vocabulary
on a daily basis. Recently, detailing
places and compass directions was
introduced. The pupils are
developing the ability to construct
full sentences rather than using key
word vocabulary. They were asked
to create a short weather forecast
for their local authority.
Teacher Voice
The pupils in the videos both demonstrate secure
talking at Second Level. After practising
commenting on the weather in various locations,
which was changed each time to avoid memory
learning, they were able to construct accurate
sentences with little or no support, demonstrating
the ability to apply their knowledge and
understanding of vocabulary and sentence
construction. The pupils are fluent with accurate
pronunciation during their short presentations.
Video 1 shows basic weather descriptions (e.g. ‘à
Melrose il y a du soleil’) whereas video 2 shows
challenge, stating directions as well as places (e.g.
‘Dans le nord, à Lauder il fait froid’). The next
level of challenge for very able children could be
adding in extra comments, such as ‘il fait froid, je
voudrais des gants!’.
