They may use support from ICT or story boards for example. Outline of activities The pupils use weather vocabulary on a daily basis. Recently, detailing places and compass directions was introduced. The pupils are developing the ability to construct full sentences rather than using key word vocabulary. They were asked to create a short weather forecast for their local authority. Teacher Voice The pupils in the videos both demonstrate secure talking at Second Level. After practising commenting on the weather in various locations, which was changed each time to avoid memory learning, they were able to construct accurate sentences with little or no support, demonstrating the ability to apply their knowledge and understanding of vocabulary and sentence construction. The pupils are fluent with accurate pronunciation during their short presentations. Video 1 shows basic weather descriptions (e.g. ‘à Melrose il y a du soleil’) whereas video 2 shows challenge, stating directions as well as places (e.g. ‘Dans le nord, à Lauder il fait froid’). The next level of challenge for very able children could be adding in extra comments, such as ‘il fait froid, je voudrais des gants!’.
