The School of Law acknowledges with appreciation the generous gifts of donors who provide
the following scholarships and loans to deserving
students.
ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
ALVIN R. ALLISON SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship
endowed by Levelland attorney, the late
Alvin R. Allison, who is affectionately known
as "the father of the Texas Tech Law School".
DURWOOD H. BRADLEY SCHOLARSHIPS--Scholarships
endowed by Mrs. Durwood H. Bradley and
friends and relatives in memory of Mr.
Bradley, a prominent Lubbock attorney
for many years. The scholarships are
awarded to deserving students.
KENNETH H. BURNS SCHOLARSHIP--Scholarship
endowment established by members of the
Victor H. Lindsey Senate of Delta Theta
Phi Law Fraternity to honor their outstanding Houston alumnus, awarded to
students who are members of the national
organization, in good academic standing;
and actively involved in the local Senate;
Mr. Burns has also been a generous
contributor to this fund.
ROBERT GUY CARTER SCHOLARSHIP--Endowed by
partners of the Dallas law firm of Carter,
Jones, Magee, Rudberg & Mayes, in honor
of Robert Guy Carter who founded the firm
and who has been a longtime supporter of
Texas Tech University and the Law School.
These scholarships are awarded to worthy
students who are in need of financial
assistance.
WILLIAM C. CLARK SCHOLARSHIPS--Endowed by
Mrs. J. C. Clark and David G. Clark in memory
of their son and brother, a Lubbock attorney
and a member of the Texas Tech Class of
1942. These scholarships are awarded to second
or third year students.

COLEMAN - HALL PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP--Endowed
by Thomas G. Hall ('81) of Fort Worth. The
scholarships are named to honor the integrity
and ideals of James E. Coleman, Jr., partner
in the Dallas firm of Carrington, Coleman,
Sloman & Blumenthal. The scholarships are
awarded to two Austin College graduates
nominated by the President of Austin College.
CRENSHAW MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship in
memory of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Crenshaw
Sr. Mr. Crenshaw was a partner in the
Lubbock firm of Crenshaw, Dupree and Milam
from 1926 until his death in 1964. The fund
in endowed by members of the Crenshaw family
and scholarship awards are based on financial
need and academic achievement.
FACULTY MINORITY SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship
endowment established by the faculty of the
Texas Tech School of Law. The scholarship is
awarded to a currently enrolled minority
student.
FIRST GRADUATING CLASS SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship
endowed through contributions by members of
the first Texas Tech graduating law class of
1969-70.
DR. ARTHUR G. HANSEN SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship
endowment established from proceeds of a
settlement of a lawsuit involving Dr. Hansen,
former Chancellor of Texas A&M University.
Hansen's attorney, W. Stephen Rodgers ('79)
of Caperton, Rodgers & Miller, Bryan, Texas,
placed a wager with Hansen that Rodgers' fee,
upon favorable verdict, would be used to endow
a scholarship at the Texas Tech Law School.
The scholarship is awarded to a second- or
third-year student.

RICHARD W. HEMINGWAY PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP-A scholarship endowed by friends and students
of former professor and Interim Dean
Hemingway.
JUNELL FAMILY PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS--A
scholarship endowed by the families of Frank
Junell, civic leader and longtime supporter
of higher education in Texas, State
Representative Robert Junell ('77) and Dan
Junell ('85). The scholarships are awarded to
graduates of Angelo State University nominated
by the President of Angelo State University.
GEORGE H. MAHON FELLOWSHIPS--A scholarship grant
endowed by the Litton Foundation in honor of
Mr. Mahon, the distinguished former Congressman from Lubbock. These fellowships are
awarded to worthy recipients in any class.
PHELAN PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS--Endowed by
Associate Dean Marilyn E. Phelan and her
husband, Harold, an attorney in Levelland.
The scholarships are awarded to two Lubbock
Christian University graduates nominated by
the President of Lubbock Christian University.
W.F. SHIVER SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship established in honor of W.F. Shiver, superintendent of Post schools. The fund is endowed
by Judge David E. and Larisa Shiver Keltner
('86) of Fort Worth.
EDWARD R. AND JO ANNE M. SMITH SCHOLARSHIP--A
scholarship presented by Lubbock attorney
Edward R. Smith and his wife Jo Anne;
awarded to a deserving student in any class.
OWEN W. MCWHORTER ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP--Created to
honor Owen W. McWhorter by the Lubbock law
firm of McWhorter, Cobb and Johnson, the
scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving
second- or third-year student.
JOHN H. SPLAWN JR. ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP--A
scholarship established in honor of trial
attorney Johnny Splawn who practiced law in
Lubbock from 1952 until his death in 1988.
The fund is endowed by Splawn's law partner
and his wife, John ('74) and Carolyn
Simpson.
OWEN MCWHORTER TUITION SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship
endowment established by Mr. & Mrs. Ray J.
Diekemper, Jr. to honor Lubbock attorney Owen
W. McWhorter. The recipients are encouraged
to exercise the same high ethical standards as
set by Mr. McWhorter.
CURT F. STEIB, JR., MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP--A
scholarship awarded annually to a student
in financial need in memory of Curt Steib,
Jr., a member of the class of 1977. The
grant is endowed by his family, classmates,
and friends.
JOE H. NAGY SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship in honor
of the named Lubbock attorney endowed by
his wife and children.
TEXAS TECH LAW SCHOOL FREEDOM SCHOLARSHIPS--A
scholarship fund created to assist students
who have overcome serious social, economic,
educational, or physical handicap in attaining a legal education.
G. HOBERT AND AILEEN HACKNEY NELSON SCHOLARSHIP
FUND--A scholarship grant endowed by longtime
Lubbock resident Mrs. Nelson, the late Mr.
Nelson and their children. The scholarships
are awarded annually to second or third year
students.

W.D. WILSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship
awarded annually by the children of the late
Lubbock attorney, W.D. Wilson, and presented
through the Ex-Students' Association.

graduates of Stephen F. Austin University
nominated by the President of that university.

HUNT, RASCHKE, ROBISON AND WEINSTEIN LOAN FUND-Fund established by the Student Bar Association in honor of the winning team and coach
of the 1979 National Moot Court Competition.
JUDGE E.H. & HORTENSE BOEDEKER SCHOLARSHIP--An
annual scholarship presented by the Lubbock
Women's Study Club to a senior law student
demonstrating special need and a commitment
to community and public service.
JUDGE MARVIN JONES LOAN FUND--Funds for shortterm loans to law students made available
by the late Judge Jones, a leader in the
establishment of the Texas Tech, a former
Congressman from West Texas, and former
Senior Judge on the U.S. Court of Claims.
LAWRENCE F. GREEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP--Given
by Lubbock attorney John F. Maner in memory
of Mr. Green who was an attorney in Lubbock.
JUDGE E. E. JORDAN LOAN FUND--Fund for law
students in unanticipated, short-term financial difficulties, provided by Judge Jordan,
retired from the 47th District Court in
Amarillo.
TEXAS TECH LAW PARTNERS SCHOLARSHIP--Presented
by the named organization to a student in
need of financial assistance.
JOHN E. THOMASON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP--Presented
in honor of the late Midland attorney by his
family and friends.
LOAN FUNDS
ALVIN R. AND ALETHA FAYE ALLISON LOAN FUND-Fund to provide short-term loans to law
students in need of financial assistance,
endowed by Mr. and Mrs. Allison of Levelland.
JUDGE DAN BLAIR LOAN FUND--Funds available to
students for short-term loans in the name of
Judge Blair who served as District Judge for
Lubbock, Hockley, Cochran, and Crosby
counties, 1936-1951.

VICTOR H. LINDSEY MEMORIAL FUND--Fund for loans
and other financial assistance to law
students in need, created by the Lubbock
County Bar Association and friends of the
late Judge Victor H. Lindsey of the 72nd
District Court, at the suggestion of his
widow, Mrs. Lindsey.
DREW SIMPSON MEMORIAL FUND--Fund to aid students
in financial difficulty, established by the
family, colleagues, and friends of Drew
Simpson ('74) on his death in February 1972.
TEXAS TECH LAW REVIEW LOAN FUND--Fund established
for members of the Texas Tech Law Review
staff.
E. WAYNE THODE MEMORIAL LOAN FUND--Fund established by students, colleagues, and friends
of E. Wayne Thode, a visiting professor
during Fall 1979 from the University of Utah,
for his contribution to and interest in
quality legal education.
