AU Academic Advising Awards Nominations Due Sunday, April 27
Have you had an exceptional experience with a SIS academic advisor? Has he/she gone above and
beyond to help you with a problem and/or contributed to your academic success? Please share your
experience and nominate him/her for the Excellence in Academic Advising Award (one for Grad, one for
Undergrad) via this link. Nominations are due by 5pm, Sunday, April 27. Then join us Wednesday,
April 30 at 3:30pm for the award reception in the Kogod New Student Lounge.
Additional section of SIS-600 Int'l Affairs Statistics and Methods added for Summer 2014
An additional section of SIS-600 Int'l Affairs Statistics and Methods has been added to the summer 2014
schedule. The new section (SIS-600-E01L) will meet online in the first summer session (May 12- June
26). Students can register via their myAU portal.
Summer and Fall 2014 Skills Institutes
Students can now find information about SIS skills institutes, including a master list of skills institutes
being offered for the summer and fall 2014 semesters, online at:

Fall 2014 SIS Semester Abroad Applications - Advisor Approval process
Fall 2014 SIS Semester Abroad application deadlines are approaching soon. Students applying for an
SIS semester abroad must meet with their advisor to obtain approval of the courses they plan to take
abroad. Students are expected to bring a copy of their personal statement to the meeting with their
advisor. It is recommended that students plan to meet with their advisor no later than one week
prior to the application deadline for the program to which they are applying. The advisor approval
process may be able to take place via email, but students should check with their advisor to determine if
this is an option. Program specific information and all upcoming deadlines can be found on the
SISAbroad website.
Spring 2014 Graduation: Cap and Gown Orders OVERDUE
Students who have been cleared as eligible to graduate* and plan to participate in the May 2014
commencement ceremony should order their cap and gown via their myAU portal (under Academics –
Commencement - Cap and Gown Order) ASAP. All students who applied to graduate by the deadline
should have received an email from SIS Graduate Advising to their AU email address confirming their
graduation eligibility, remaining requirements and graduation deadlines. For information about the May

*Students who have 3 or fewer credits remaining to complete their degree after the spring 2014 semester
may be eligible to participate in the May 2014 commencement ceremony. Interested students should
contact their advisor for more information.

Social Development, OAS. Students, alumni, faculty and staff are invited to join an informal discussion
about her work and career path since SIS. No RSVP is necessary. Come ask questions, receive advice,
and build your network. Join for just a few minutes or the entire hour.
NEW SIS Spring Practicum Symposium
Friday, April 25 - Saturday, April 26
All semester SIS practicum teams have been engaged with real-world clients to produce practical
deliverables that will impact their client's work. At the Symposium, students will give short presentations
(15 minutes with 10 minutes for Q&A) summarizing their work as they prepare for their final presentations
to their clients. Please come support the students with your questions and feedback. All faculty, staff,
students and visitors are welcome, no RSVPs required. Please find attached a complete schedule of all
Symposium presentations, dates, times and locations. Also attached is a schedule with a brief
description of each presentation.
