Overcash Mr. Joshua Wagner Staff Present: Dr. Lynn Moody, Superintendent Mr. Nathan Currie, Assistant Superintendent Mr. Anthony Vann, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Julie Morrow, Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Patty Overcash, Clerk to the Board *Chairman Miller was absent from the meeting but joined by phone. *Mr. L.A. Overcash arrived at 4:15 p.m. Call to Order / Roll Call Vice-Chair Norman called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Mr. Wagner officiated the Pledge of Allegiance, and Mrs. Norman requested that everyone share a moment of silence. Open Session Adopt Agenda Mrs. Norman asked that the agenda be amended by moving Closed Session to be the first item on the agenda. ***Mr. Wagner made a motion to adopt the amended agenda. Mrs. Cox seconded. Unanimously approved (5:0) Closed Session ***Mrs. Norman moved to recess into Closed Session at 4:04 p.m. to consider personnel action that involves an [officer] or [employee], or [prospective public officer or employee] of this Board [NC Gen. Stat. #143-318.11(a)(6)], To prevent disclosure of information that is privileged or confidential pursuant to state or federal law. [NC Gen. state 143- 318.11(a)(1) and 143-318.11(a)(3)]. And To consult with an attorney employed or retained by the public body in order to preserve the attorney-client privilege between the attorney and the public body. [NC Gen. Stat.#143-318.11(a)(3)] Mrs. Cox seconded. Unanimously approved (5:0) Open Session Discussion/Information Items Twitter for Educators The following students gave the Board of Education “one on one” training with Twitter: South Rowan: Taylor Kluttz East Rowan: Baylee Corriher North Rowan: Brian (Brody) Madison Carson: Ryan Turney and Mallorie Ritchie Henderson: Jeremiah Billingsley West: Kristen Bailey SFL+A Presentation SFL+A representatives Robbie Farris and Tom Hughes gave the Board of Education a presentation on the Knox project and the West Elementary project. They gave the Board a view of what the scheduled impact would be on the budget. *Chairman Miller disconnected his phone at 4:48 p.m. *The Board of Education took a 10-minute recess at 5:50. Policy 9115 Prequalification of Bidders for Construction Projects Mr. Vann reviewed the changes that were made to the Policy by the advice of the construction attorney. Literacy Summit Overview Director of Media, Kelly Feimster shared information with the Board of Education concerning the upcoming Literacy Summit scheduled for September 26, 2014, at 8:00 a.m. at Hood Theological Seminary. Proposed Buy Back Plan Director of Technology, Candace Hosey gave the Board of Education a presentation on how the proposed Buy Back Plan would be managed. NC Course of Study Director of Secondary Ed Eisa Cox gave the Board of Education an update. Policy 4320 Tobacco Products Mr. Nathan Currie presented the Board of Education with Policy 4320 for their review. Policy 4300 Student Behavior Policies Mr. Nathan Currie presented the Board of Education Policy 4300 for their review. Policy 4307 Disciplinary Action for Exceptional Children/ Students with Disabilities Nr. Nathan Currie presented the Board of Education Policy 4307 for their review. 2014 – 2015 School Visits Rita Foil informed the Board of Education the scheduled school visits for the school year. She also distributed copies of letters and schedules for the Board to use to invite public officials to attend the meetings. Maintenance Information Mr. Vann, Chief Finance Officer Tara Trexler and Director of Human Resources Krisiti Rhone informed the Board of Education of the cuts that had to be made in the Maintenance Dept. Closed Session ***Mrs. Cox moved to recess into Closed Session at 7:20 p.m. to consider personnel action that involves an [officer] or [employee], or [prospective public officer or employee] of this Board [NC Gen.
