Call to Order / Roll Call
Chairman Wagner called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Mr. Hunter officiated the
Pledge of Allegiance, and Chairman Wagner requested that everyone share a moment of
silence.
*Mrs. Kennedy and Mr. Allen were not present.
Adopt Agenda
Chairman Wagner moved to amend the Agenda by adding a SREB Update by Dr. Moody.
***Mrs. Cox made a motion to adopt the amended agenda.
Dr. Miller seconded. Unanimously approved. (5:0)

Discussion/Action Items
Thought Exchange Introduction - Josh Wagner, Chairman
Chairman Wagner stated this would be a good way to see how the public feels about
certain Board of Education subjects. The Board will look at this again at the March 29, 2015
Board Meeting. The Board requested for the company to Skype so they could answer any
questions that the Board may have.
Board Travel Allotments - Josh Wagner, Chairman
Chairman Wagner discussed the Board Travel Allotments.
Each Board Member is allotted $2750.00 for travel, conferences and other expenses.
2014-2015 Audit Contract - Tara Trexler, Chief Finance Officer
Mrs. Trexler explained to Board of Education how the Rowan Salisbury School
System can save money by choosing the same audit company they previously used. The
Board will vote on this at the March 29, 2015 Board Meeting.
Teacher Working Hours & Consistency of School Days, Announcements
and Saturday Makeup Days Lynn Moody, Superintendent
Dr. Moody informed the Board of Education that the school system is presently
Working on 2 problems that we have concerning hours and consistency of school days.
Consistent on our school start times.
Trying to condense it to:
1 or 2 start times for Elementary
1 time for middle schools
1 time for high schools
Consistency of school days.
All surrounding schools districts start 30 min later than Rowan Salisbury Schools.
RSSS would like for all our busses not to run to before 6:00 am.
Try to make a decision by 7:00 pm at night so parents can plan in cases of bad weather.
Working with schools that do not have as much instructional time.
Some schools will have to readjust their day to increase instructional time.
RSSS needs to maximum school days.
Drivers Education Program 14/15 School Year –

Tim Beck, Director of Transportation
Discussion was heard on the possibility of the state not funding the Drivers Education
Program. The Board will vote on the recommendation of a $65.00 fee for students to
take the program at the March 29, 2015 Board Meeting.
AdvanceED Accreditation –
Alesia Burnette, Executive Director of Elementary Education
Mrs. Burnette gave the Board an update of the preparation for AdvanceED Accreditation.
The Board of Education will have called BOE Meeting on April 15, 2015 to hear
the presenters Exit Report.

Discussion was heard concerning the Board Attorney.
This item will be on the agenda for the March 29, 2015 meeting.
Proposed Policy 3420 - Student Promotion and Accountability –

Proposed Policy 3450 - Class Rankings –

Add to the policy that the marshals are to be the actual top 10 students in the
Junior class.

Take out the word “so” and change it to “as”.
SREB Update- Dr. Moody
RSSS has been given the opportunity to participate, but will need to have a literacy coach
who works in the middle school and High school to be eligible. The jobs will be posted, the literacy
coaches will be working in the schools.
Closed Session
***Mr. Hunter moved to recess into Closed Session at 7:25 p.m. to consider personnel
action that involves an [officer] or [employee], or [prospective public officer or employee]
of this Board [NC Gen. Stat. #143-318.11(a)(6)], To prevent disclosure of information that
is privileged or confidential pursuant to state or federal law. [NC Gen. state 143318.11(a)(1) and 143-318.11(a)(3)]. And To consult with an attorney employed or retained
by the public body in order to preserve the attorney-client privilege between the attorney
and the public body. [NC Gen. Stat.#143-318.11(a)(3)]

Reminder of the JPC Meeting on March 10, 2015
This will be the last BOE Work Session Meeting to be held at the Ellis Street Office. Due to
broadcasting all future Board of Education Meetings will held at the Long Street Office.
