Welcome back to a new school year! We are looking forward to helping each of you become successful in
Geometry. The following syllabus will help inform you of our classroom expectations, course summary,
and serve as a reference throughout the year. Make sure you read through each one of the categories with
your parents and have them sign and returned back to us by 09/05.
Objectives:
This is the second course in the college preparation sequence. Students who complete this course
satisfactorily will be prepared to take Algebra 2 the following year. The topics to be covered include:
 Basic elements of geometry
 Reasoning and developing a proof
 Perpendicular and parallel lines and angles
 Proving congruent triangles
 Properties of triangles
 Quadrilaterals—classifying, proving, and finding areas of triangles and quadrilaterals
 Transformations and how geometric figures of the same shape relate to one another
 Similar polygons—four ways of proving triangles are similar given sides and angles.
 Properties related to right triangles, trigonometry, and measurement
 Arcs, angles, and segments in circles, graphs and equations of a circle
 Finding the areas of polygons and circles
 Finding the surface area and volume of solids
Student Responsibilities


Regular attendance in class
We will using the following supplies in class:
o Textbook
o Notebook (Spiral) for notes
o Lined and graph paper
o Protractor / compass
o Pencils / pens/ dry erase markers
o Scientific calculator for Trig

Complete all assignments in pencil (failure to do so will result in points lost), Please write your
heading and assignment in pen—students will turn in the homework daily. Occasionally, there
will be pop quizzes on homework questions.
o You must show work. No work, No credit.
No late work accepted. Only excused absences are allowed make up work. Students have as many
days as their absences to make up work.


What to expect.




Students will start each class with a warm up activity that includes accessing prior knowledge to
prepare for new lessons and review previous lessons.
Students are to take notes for each new lesson in their spiral notebook which will be allowed to be
used for quizzes. Notes are crucial to mastering the new concepts and will be an important study
tool for exams and quizzes.
Exams are usually given at the end of each chapter and students will be given at least three days
notice prior to an exam.
Quizzes are usually given every two to three sections. Students will be given prior notice before
quizzes.
Cell Phone Policy:


Cell phones have to be off and in your purse, back pack or under your desk.
Failure to comply will result in your phone being taken away and turned into
administration where your parents/guardian has to pick it up.
