The Capital City: the Political, Economic and Cultural Center of Spain
Seven week hybrid course with a one week in Country visit during Spring Break – March 19 – 26, 2016
This seven week hybrid course includes online asynchronous sessions, live - in person class sessions and a oneweek in
country visit to Madrid. Madrid is in the center of Spain on a plateau that is 650 meters above sea level in the center of the
Iberian peninsula. The week-long, in country portion of this course provides students with an introduction into the
culture, cuisine, and history of Madrid's 21 districts, and students will live in the heart of Madrid. They will sample the
renowned cuisine of Spain in various Tapas bars, tour museums along the Paseo del Prado, which includes Prado Museum,
Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, and a museum of Modern Art. Students may
also visit Retiro Park which houses the Crystal Palace and an exceptional Botanical Garden, the Royal Palace of Madrid,
and Cibeles Palace. Students can explore the architecturally diverse neighborhoods that includes Baroque Classicism, Neo
Gothic, and Art Deco, as well as the numerous outdoor sculptures and fountains. This is one of our most popular
programs!
S
pain-Not only does Spain have a rich cultural heritage,
a majestic blend of architecture styles, and internationally recognized museums and cathedrals. Spain’s universities are world famous for their foreign language centers,
making it an ideal country for Spanish language immersion. Spain has something to offer for everyone
studying abroad, whether you want to experience the
cultural flavors of the Tapas bars, explore the diverse
neighborhoods or simply take in the breathtaking city
