What’s a PIN for?

The PIN is used to sign the FAFSA
electronically and saves you time.
y
It also is needed to access the FAFSA and
to make corrections to the application.
y
Both the student and a parent must have
a PIN to sign electronically.

Go to the website above to start.
y
Follow the red arrows provided by this
presentation.
y
Read the yellow boxes for tips.
Fill in all your info
and make sure
your names and
birth date match
those on your
social security card.
Use a current
address for mail
Use a current
email address
you check often.
Create your own
PIN. Choose 4
numbers that you
can remember.
Keep PIN Safe
y
After you complete the application, you
may choose to view your PIN
immediately or have it emailed to you.
y
Keep your PIN safe (email or cell phone).
y
Your PIN is with you forever and may be
used every year for FAFSA.
Create a PIN for Parent
y
Your parent must also have a PIN to sign the
FAFSA.
y
Go back to the beginning of www.pin.ed.gov
and start over using your parent’s information
and their social security number.
y
If they do not have an email address you may
use your own again.
y
Your parent may have a PIN already if you
have an older brother or sister who have
completed the FAFSA in the past.

duplicate PIN on
the first page of
the website
It’s Not Over
y
Now you must go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to
complete your application for financial aid
for the 2013-2014 school year.
y
The deadline to submit is March 2nd, 2013.
y
You can always make changes after March
2nd as long as you submitted before the
deadline.
