The faculty unanimously approved the January 28, 2014 faculty meeting minutes. II. The following items were recommended by the Committee on Academic Priorities and unanimously approved by the faculty: A. New Permanent Courses: 1. ECO 263 Labor Economics 2. EAL 271 Crafting the Self in Japan 3. FYS 144 Science of Exploration 4. GEO 302 Field Studies of the Desert Southwest 5. GOV 400 Special Studies 6. HST 256 The Making of Colonial West Africa: Race, Power and Society 7. PSY 310 Research Seminar in Adult Cognition B. New Permanent Topics: 1. AMS 220 Colloquium, Topic—Dance Music Sex Romance: Popular Music, Gender and Sexuality from Rock to Rap 2. HST 259 Aspects of African History, Topic—Discourses of Development 3. SPN 246 Latin American Literature, Topic—Race and Rebellion: Palenques and Cimarrones in the Americas C. Curricular Changes: 1. Change the name of Afro-American Studies department to Africana Studies department. 2. Request from Art: Reduce the chronological groups from three (pre-1300, 1300-1800, post-1800) to two (pre-1800, post-1800). Reduction will not change the substance of the requirement (four courses pre-1800). 3. Request from Biological Sciences: Due to changes in Massachusetts licensure requirements, two education courses–EDC 211 Sheltering Instruction for ELLs and EDC 342 Growing Up American–will be added to the list of requirements for the Biology & Education Track. 4. Change in credits for BIO 103 Economic Botany: Plants and Human Affairs from 3 to 4 credits. 5.
