Role of Module Tutor
Reports to
Module Coordinator
Remit
The Module Tutor is responsible for the delivery of specific aspects / sections of a
module. Module Tutors will support the Module Coordinator with designing the
teaching and learning approaches, identifying resource and Teaching Assistant
requirements, and updating the contents and assessment for the relevant aspects /
sections of the module.
Duties
The Module Tutor is required to:
1. Academic Content and Strategic Outlook
I.
Discuss with the Module Coordinator how different aspects of the module
connect and propose improvements where applicable to the Module
Coordinator. This may include restructuring, consolidation of topics,
streamlining of assessments, or suggesting alternative methods of delivery or
assessment.
II.
Contribute to continuous development and improvement of the module in
consultation with and under guidance of the Module Coordinator and
Departmental Teaching Committee.
2. Delivery of the module
I.
Use the most appropriate teaching and learning methods to deliver their
section of the module.
II.
Coordinate the Teaching Assistant arrangements for the delivery of their
aspects / sections of the module in consultation with the Module Coordinator
and Teaching Assistant Coordinator. This includes providing Teaching
Assistants with detailed information about the teaching and learning approach
and agreeing the hours required to prepare and deliver the relevant section of
the module.
III.
Deliver the aspects / sections of the module for which they have responsibility
in accordance with the approved module specification.
IV.
Provide up-to-date information about their aspects / sections of the module on
the module’s Moodle page in accordance with the Department’s Moodle
Baseline.
3. Quality assurance
I.
Provide students with the opportunity to evaluate the content and
presentation of their section of the module in accordance with the
Department’s policy on student module evaluations.
II.
Contribute content to the Module Coordinator’s annual module review .
4. Assessment and Feedback
I.
Assess their aspects / sections of the module in accordance with the module
specification.
II.
Provide the Module Coordinator with the necessary information to allow them
to produce an assessment scheme and schedule that is in accordance with
the Assessment and Feedback policies of the Department and UCL .
III.
Provide feedback to students for any assessment set in accordance with the
Assessment and Feedback policies of the Department and UCL.
IV.
Contribute to the production of the module’s examination paper (where
applicable) in accordance with the Department’s Exam Paper Preparation
Guidelines. This includes following internal moderation procedures,
complying with the deadlines set by the Module Coordinator and responding
to comments from the external examiner.
V.
Return the marks for the relevant coursework components (where applicable)
to the Module Coordinator in the correct format and by the required
deadlines.
VI.
Comply with the Module Coordinator’s schedule for exam marking and
moderation.
VII.
Mark and moderate in accordance with University Regulations and
Procedures and to ensure that any Teaching Assistants employed to support
this activity also comply.
VIII.
Attend the preliminary meetings of all exam boards involving their section of
the module, being suitably prepared and equipped to answer questions from
members about candidates’ performance on the relevant section of the
module. If unable to attend, the Module Tutor must brief the chair of the exam
board in advance on any relevant issues.
