Plastic Shampoo Bottles and Yogurt Containers Plastics can be some of the most complicated items to recycle. For the most part, if the neck of the bottle is smaller than the body the item CAN be recycled, yogurt containers being the exception. This includes: shampoo bottles, laundry detergent, milk containers, and water bottles (caps included). Disposable plastics, such as grab-n-go clamshells are NOT recyclable. Please rinse out bottles with any food or product residue and place them in bottles and cans receptacles. Plastic materials are great items to recycle because they can be easily reclaimed and turned into a new product! How? Once at a recycling facility, plastics are separated by type. Next, the plastic is ground up into smaller bits and finally made into pellets through the process of drying, grinding, and melting. Those pellets are sent to manufacturing facilities where they become new products. Brought to you by the Office of Environmental Sustainability
