ACADEMIC ADVISING WORKSHOPS
SCHEDULE
FEBRUARY 26 FROM 1-4PM
LOWER LEVEL OF MAUCKER UNION & CME
Session 1
1:00 - 1:50pm
Career Purpose 101
Presenters: David Marchesani, Associate Director, Office of Academic Advising
Jonathan West, Group Leader, Target Corporation
Location: Center for Multicultural Education (CME)
The foundation of “Career Purpose” is to have a sense of self-identity - which includes an
understanding of skills, strengths, values, passions, and purpose. With this context, an
individual can make intentional decisions and find ways to be meaningfully engaged both in
and outside of the classroom. Furthermore, employers look for new graduates with a diversity
of personal, team, thought, and leadership abilities. Students, when looking for employment
after graduation, must be able to talk from the “I” perspective and demonstrate connections
from past experiences and opportunities to succeed in a potential employment position.
In Career Purpose 101, the concepts and idea of career branding and career readiness – in
particular focusing on an awareness and understanding of self – will be presented and
discussed from both a higher educational/student development and employer perspective.
