Government Defeat in Lords on Coroners and Justice Bill Monday 13/07/2009 On 13/07/2009 the government had a defeat in the House of Lords on an amendment to the Coroners and Justice Bill: To insert a clause requiring the Secretary of State to appoint an Independent Commissioner to monitor the detention and treatment of terrorist suspects including extensions of detention periods.
