Government Defeat in Lords on Housing and Planning Bill Wednesday 27/04/2016 On 27/04/2016 the government had a defeat in the House of Lords on an amendment to the Housing and Planning Bill: To allow local authorities to spend payments from selling social housing properties on building similar properties for rent purposes, provided that need is demonstrated, rather than transferring payments to the Secretary of State as provided in the bill. This was defeat number 54 in the parliamentary session.
