Co penhagen seemed like a fun city to live in. CBS is kno wn to be a go o d business scho o l. Co penhagen is in a go o d lo catio n fo r being a base fro m which to travel.
Co penhagen lo o ked like an interesting city and it was so mething co mpletely different than what I had expected so I was lo o king fo rward to bro adening my ho rizo ns and the

Denmark peo ple are suppo sed to have an exceptio nally high quality o f life. Co penhagen is kno wn fo r its green energy. I didn't kno w much abo ut Denmark but I kno w it is

I heard Co penhagen was a fun, urban city where peo ple spo ke English. i wanted a place where peo ple spo ke English so that I co uld integrate myself with the culture pretty
well
I cho se this pro gram because the previo us USC students that went o n exchange at CBS co uld no t sto p saying amazing things abo ut their experience. They emphasized
the peo ple they met -- Danish and o ther internatio nal students -- and they were 10 0 % co rrect that the peo ple that are at CBS are the best!
Co penhagen is a very active city, peo ple walk and ride bikes everywhere, the peo ple are beautiful, CBS is internatio nally reno wn, yo u can drink beer ANYWHERE, it is a
quite unco mmo n destinatio n fo r a semester abro ad, and the peo ple speak great English.
1) I am interested in sustainability and Co penhagen is the cleanest and greenest city in the wo rld. 2) I lo ve cycling and Co penhagen has twice as many bikes as residents.
3) Co penhagen is different. Paris and Lo ndo n are mainstream. Co penhagen pro vides a mo re unique experience and is a livable city.
Go o d lo catio n in Euro pe, classes so unded interesting, Denmark has the happiest peo ple in the wo rld so I wanted to see what their culture is like.
I heard great things abo ut it and it was a unique place that no t everyo ne go es to
I wanted to cho o se so mething co mpletely different and new.
A few reaso ns: 1. I had been to Asia a few times recently including twice with the Marshall Scho o l, so I wanted to switch it up and live in Euro pe instead 2. I ho sted two
Danish students at USC with the IEP pro gram previo usly and what they had to say o f Co penhagen piqued my interest 3. I had an image in my mind that Denmark wo uld be
a great place to live (as in, a high quality o f life) ... and I ended up thinking right
The literature o n the scho o l befo rehand explained the prestige o f the scho o l and the co ncentratio n in business made it very appealing to me.
I wanted to go to Euro pe. Co penhagen was no t my first cho ice, but I ended up being very happy here.
I wanted to bro aden my perspective and I also wanted to get o ut o f USC fo r a semester - to experience so mething mo re refreshing.
Clo se to No rway (my natio nality), speaks English, was to ld by my No rwegian family CBS is a go o d scho o l.
I wanted to be to tally o ut o f my element during my semester abro ad. Co penhagen seed like a go o d place to study because Scandinavia was so fo reign to me and I had no
idea abo ut the culture o f the co untry. I felt that my perso nality wo uld fit well with the city that was inno vative, trusting, design-o riented, and ho me to the happiest peo ple o n
earth. It was different and that's what I wanted. I also knew everyo ne spo ke English, which wo uld make it easier to get aro und and adjust to my new surro undings.
I cho se the pro gram becuase I had heard fro m o lder students that it was an amazing pro gram (which it was!). I had also never been to Denmark and wanted so mething a
little bit different fro m the "no rmal" western Euro pean lo catio n.
I've heard great things abo ut the lo catio n and scho o l.
Danish so ciety pro ved to be an eye-o pening experience bo th thro ugh the study o f their co mpact, yet ro bust eco no my and their po sitive, happy peo ple. Co penhagen was a
perfect city to spend 5 mo nths studying abro ad: 1.5 millio n peo ple, easily navigable, great weather by the time May and June came aro und, and it was super easy to meet
o ther internatio nal exchange students.
I was interested in co ncentrating in Internatio nal Business; parto o k in the Glo bal Leadership Pro gram my Freshman year which fueled my interest in studying abro ad;
interested in pursuing a career regarding internatio nal relatio ns
Really wanted to study abro ad because I heard so many go o d things abo ut it and knew it wo uld be to ns o f fun. IEP was the best o ptio n since I co uld co mplete my
co ncentratio n and spend a significant amo unt o f time o verseas and really get to kno w what it was like to live in a different culture. Definitely changed my perspective o f the
wo rld and gained a better understanding o f glo bal relatio ns. I cho se my lo catio n because I wanted to be so mewhere in Euro pe, and Co penhagen seemed to be the mo st
interesting and fun.
Co penhagen is an aweso me city
I wanted to go so mewhere in Euro pe and experience the culture and everyday life there as I have plans to so meday mo ving there fo r a career. I also was lo o king to go to a
city that did no t require a fo reign language - almo st everyo ne in Co penhagen speaks fluent English.
I wanted to go so mewhere that was less to uristy fo r a Euro pean city, so mewhere vastly different fro m Lo s Angeles, and so mewhere where everyo ne spo ke English so I
co uld be sure to co nnect with them.
I heard great things abo ut this pro gram fro m previo us abro ad students. It exceeded my expectatio ns.
Gain fo reign expeience
My initial interest was to be in Asia fo r my 'abro ad' semester. When I cho se to change my fo cus to ward Euro pe, I was drawn to ward Co penhagen fo r several reaso ns. I
mainly cho se the city because I knew that it seemed to be the unlikely Euro pean cho ice. I was also aware o f its biking culture and its po litical o rientatio ns to ward heavy
so cial welfare. But in the end, I wo uld say the decisio n came do wn to wanting to be in Euro pe but away fro m the po pular capital cities that mo st students seem
auto matically attracted to wards.
Co penhagen was no t my first cho ice, but I co uld no t be mo re happy that this is where I was placed. The city is incredible--beautiful, such friendly peo ple, much to do , and
easy to travel fro m. The pro gram is extremely well o rganized and I instantly felt co mfo rtable and at ho me. Mo re peo ple sho uld stro ngly co nsider Co penhagen, because it is
a unique city, a well-regarded scho o l, and the perfect place to spend a semester abro ad.

33. Ho w much study time per week do yo u reco mmend in o rder to keep
up with classes?
T e xt Re spo nse
5
4 ho urs
Just do a little bit o f reading each week so that yo u are mo re o r less caught up with the classes and do n't have to cram at the end o f the semester.
A few ho urs fo r reading but it depends o n the class.
1 ho ur...ho nestly
2 ho urs
4 ho urs
a co uple ho urs
2-10 Ho urs
4 ho urs per week
A few ho urs at mo st
4
At least a few ho urs per class a week if yo u want to learn so mething, o r a co uple ho urs to tal per week if yo u just want to pass (it all depends o n what yo u want to get o ut o f
the experience)
15-20 ho urs
1 ho ur per week. If that. Serio usly.
6 ho urs
4ho urs (to pass the co urses, no t to get an A)
It really depends o n yo ur co urses. Maybe 2-3 ho urs per week fo r each class if yo u really want to keep up with readings, but no t necessary to do well.
3 hrs (but then I studied A LOT befo re the week o f the exam)
10
No t much, a co uple ho urs
varies with individual and classes he/she is registered fo r
Almo st every class is 10 0 % graded o n the final and there is no ho mewo rk. So to pass yo u can easily no t do anything till the last few weeks.
1-2 ho urs
Maybe 3 ho urs (depended greatly o n whether I had so mething due o r no t)
Virtually no ne, until the final.
0 , I literally did no t do anything scho o l related till 1 week prio r o f the exam.
10 ho urs
1-2 daily, but study ho urs are mo re heavily skewed to ward the end o f the semester because the finals are 10 0 % o f the grade
Depends o n the classes, maybe o ne ho ur/week until finals

34. Ho w, if at all, do es the structure o f the co urses differ fro m tho se at
USC? Did yo u like o r dislike these differences?
T e xt Re spo nse
There is o nly 1 final at the end o f the year and it is wo rth yo ur entire grade. I didn't like that because yo u have no idea the grading styles, the expectatio ns, the requirements
o f anything. Also , the lectures are no t well structured o r necessarily relevant to the co urse so everything is dependent o n entirely the reading, no no tes, slides, o r o ther
o ptio ns.
The classes that I to o k at CBS o nly met o nce a week, so we o nly had a to tal o f abo ut 10 sessio ns. A lo t mo re emphasis is put o n yo u to study o n yo ur o wn. The grade is
co mpletely based o n the final exam.
There is no thing that yo u are graded o n in the co urse except fo r the final which makes it mo re stressful, even tho ugh I was taking the class pass-fail I fo und myself studying
much harder than I do fo r pass-fail classes at USC because there was no thing else to base my grade o n. The lectures are a lo t lo nger than the lectures at USC to o so it
was so mewhat difficult getting used to sitting and fo cusing fo r that lo ng.
There is o nly o ne grade which is the final exam grade. The teachers do no t make yo u co me to class and have no assignments to make sure yo u understand the
co ursewo rk alo ng the way. Yo u need to do everything o n yo ur o wn and ask the pro fesso r questio ns if necessary.
They give elective classes which make study very easy because mo st o f the regular students are taking all o f the mo re intense classes
The final is yo ur entire grade. One can get by with less studying. As a result, o ne has a no vel understanding o f the material
No t all o f the classes meet every week, and mo st classes start different weeks thro ugho ut the semester. In additio n, attendance was never taken. Classes met just o nce a
week. I lo ved this structure because it allo wed flexibility and so mething new every week!
Yes, the entire co urse grade is dependent o n 1 exam o r paper. Class participatio n and attendance, as well as ho mewo rk are in no way mandato ry.
10 0 % o f yo ur grade is the final. This seems scary, but if yo u are accusto med to USC co ursewo rk, this is a zero stress situatio n.
10 0 % different. Lectures do n't matter at all, the bo o k is what is the primary fo cus o f the co urse. Also , there is no ho mewo rk o r quizzes o r tests so it's difficult to gauge ho w
yo u are pro gressing thro ugh the co urse. The final is 10 0 % o f yo ur grade. Intense!
There are no quizzes, midterms, etc. The final is wo rth 10 0 % o f the grade. I didn't like it o r dislike it, it was just different. Even tho ugh there were no midterms, I wo uld
HIGHLY reco mmend keeping up with the reading; lectures make a lo t mo re sense if yo u have do ne the reading, and if yo u leave it until the final it can be o verwhelming.
They meet mo re rarely. It was nice because yo ur schedule was mo re free. At the same time, they allo wed fo r class o verlaps, so so metimes yo u had no cho ice but to miss
a class in o rder to attend ano ther.
As in mo st o f Euro pe, the co urse grade usually co nsists o f o nly o ne o r two co mpo nents, fo r example, a 15-page paper fo llo wed by a 20 -minute o ral exam o r a fo ur-ho ur
written test. Yo u have to be a bit mo re disciplined with studying ahead o f finals time because everything rides o n yo ur final perfo rmance. Also , co urses usually will meet
o nly three ho urs a week to ps and pro fesso rs place less emphasis o n lectures. The Danish students say at least 9 0 % o f wo rk is do ne studying o utside o f lecture, and yo ur
lo cal classmates will pro bably go to the library to wo rk after sitting thro ugh a three-ho ur lecture. At USC, I find attending classes is mo re o bligato ry yet also co rrelates mo re
into understanding o f the co urse to pics. At CBS, lectures tend to skip o ver a lo t o f the necessary bo o k readings, so do n't be surprised if half o f the exam questio ns are no t
in lecture slides o r discussio n.
The o nly grades were the finals and there were no Ta's o r Pro fesso r o ffice ho urs.
Classes are held o nly o nce per week each, which made it nice to no t have to go to class as o ften. Ho wever, classes were 3-4 ho urs lo ng so it was very difficult to pay
attentio n fo r all o f it o r stay until the end. Also , 10 0 % o f yo ur grade is the final and there's basically no assignments thro ugho ut the semester, so I fo und it very hard to care
abo ut anything until abo ut a mo nth befo re finals.
The o ne exam at the end determine yo ur who le grade. I prefer this metho d a lo t mo re.
The grade co nsists o f o ne exam (and/o r a pro ject) at the end o f the semester. Attendance was o ptio nal. I likes the abro ad system better.
Structure o f co urses were very different: o ne o r two meeting perio ds per week fo r three ho urs at a time. The lo ng class time was fine because we had breaks in lecture, so it
didn't seem to o lo ng. All co urses are weighted 10 0 % o n the final exam o r pro ject. It was so mething new to get used to , but I felt prepared go ing into the exam co ming fro m
USC. I liked the class structure because I had a lo t o f free time to explo re the city and travel. The weighted exam wo rked o ut fine fo r me, no big deal.
They do no t care if yo u go to class. Mo st o f the exams are based o n the reading o nly and no t o n much that is said in class. Therefo re, yo u do no t need to go to class but to
be successful in the classes but yo u need to do the reading. I think is the o ppo site o f USC where yo u need to go to class but do n't need to read). Mo st exams are o pen
bo o k/take ho me so yo u do n't need to memo rize the info rmatio n like at USC but understand where to find the info rmatio n and ho w it all co nnects. I liked these differences
because it made traveling very easy and stress free. Ho wever, it is stressful that yo ur entire grade is based o n the o ne paper/exam and yo u have no idea ho w they grade,
so failure is co mmo n. Therefo re, even tho ugh yo u do n't have to do much the entire semester yo u have to study hard befo re the exam.
Everything was based o n 1 final and o ral exams. I liked the difference.
Yo u can cho o se to take quarterly classes (5 ho urs per week) o r semester lo ng classes (2.5 ho urs per week). I to o k mainly electives which were rather easy, especially as a
native english speaker. They were also quite easy to pass with minimal effo rt.
10 0 % o f yo ur grade is a final exam o r pro ject; attending class/ participatio n is no t a part o f yo ur grade; I didn't mind these differences. It was interesting to be in invo lved o f a
pro gram that was quite different fro m USC.
The classes are lectures just like USC but usually bigger. There is no busy wo rk and the teachers just expect yo u to learn the material o n yo ur o wn acco rd and be ready fo r
a final.
10 0 % o f yo ur grade is the final
I to o k fo ur quarter lo ng classes (two in the 1st quarter and 2 in the seco nd quarter). Fo r each class yo u o nly attend class o nce a week fo r abo ut 3 ho urs at a time, with the
o ccasio nal lab o r discussio n o n ano ther day o f the week. There are o nly 10 lectures per co urse and attendance is rarely mandato ry. While I wo uld no t have enjo yed this
lack o f structure and discipline at USC it enabled me to experience Danish culture and travel when po ssible. In terms o f grading - 10 0 % o f yo ur grade is based o n yo ur final
exam (can either be o ral, written, take ho me, o r essay). Oral exams are much harder than they my seem because generally all yo u do is go into the ro o m and the pro fesso r
asks yo u any questio ns abo ut the co urse material fo r abo ut a 20 -30 minute time perio d.
Attendance to all classes is o ptio nal, with the exceptio n o f a 1 o r 2 easy 10 -minute presentatio ns. Classes are purely lectures, and 10 0 % o f yo ur grade is based o n the final
(paper, written exam, o r o ral exam). It's great fo r studying abro ad because yo u do n't have to do much at all, but if yo u want to learn anything it's o n yo u.
The structure o f the co urses was extremely different than USC. Yo ur final grade in each class is 10 0 % o f yo ur grade. There is no attendance sco re, ho mewo rk, midterm, etc.
The o nly thing that yo u are graded o n is yo ur final. I to o k 4 classes. One final was a take ho me 10 page paper o n whatever to pic I wanted, ano ther was a 15 minute
discussio n with my pro fesso r, ano ther was a 4 ho ur o pen bo o k/no te exam in class, and the last was a 48 case study. This alternative metho d o f teaching allo ws abro ad
students at CBS to travel and no t wo rry abo ut scho o l. I am happy USC do es no t o ffer this, but it was great abro ad.
I do n't like the fact that it do esn't have any pressure at all and students o nly get o ne sho t(the final) fo r the class.
There is much mo re attentio n o n the co urse's syllabus which was used to deliver ho me the selected themes and co ncepts o f the co urse. This is true o f any co urse at
ho me o r abro ad, but when I was at CBS, I felt there was mo re o f an o verarching narrative to each co urse that was being taught thro ugho ut the semester. To achieve this, the
syllabus was emphasized, mo re than at USC at least.
There is almo st no ho mewo rk, except fo r a few small gro up pro jects. Yo ur grade is 10 0 % yo ur final exam, which makes the semester a breeze, but fo r a week o r two yo u
have to study really hard. The grading scale is different as well, but yo u get the hang o f it. Pretty easy co mpared to USC.

T e xt Re spo nse
Sco tland and Switzerland I wo uld reco mmend o utside the no rm. I had no stro ng pro fesso rs who i felt i learned fro m
Internatio nal Management Organizing Internatio nal Business - the main pro fesso r is very interesting
Internatio nal Management: This class was extremely interesting, especially because it was filled with fo reign exchange students so we really go t to discuss cultural
differences. Service Marketing: The pro fesso r who taught the class had an amazing backgro und in the service industry and gave great insight into the industry during
lectures.
Internatio nal Management-very interesting textbo o k abo ut differences acro ss cultures.
Spo rts Eco no mics was a fun class. The final was a 10 page paper o n yo ur cho ice. Plus, it had to be o n spo rts (which I'm a fan o f). Internatio nal Finance was pretty
intellectually stimulating. The pro fesso r was a great co mmunicato r o f the material
Spo rts Eco no mics - Tro els Tro elsen. Great class to learn abo ut the eco no mics o f Euro pean Fo o tball. Internatio nal Management - Interesting if yo u are interested in glo bal
business Intercultural Business Co mmunicatio n - Lill Ingstad. Lill is a very appro achable and tho ro ugh teacher. This class is very similar to Int'l Management, in that yo u
learn a lo t abo ut the different styles o f co mmunicatio n in o ther cultures. Green Inno vatio n - Patricia Plackett. Great pro fesso r and interesting to pic fo r to day's wo rld.
Tro lls Tro llso n fo r Spo rts Eco no mics if yo u are into spo rts/Euro pean so ccer. Lill Ingstad fo r Intercultural Business Co mmunicatio n and Frank Brandt fo r Internatio nal
Management if yo u want to learn abo ut the differences between mo st cultures and the way o thers view Americans.
Spo rts Eco no mics. Best pro fesso r at CBS and very interesting co ntent.
Tro els Tro elso n is the man, he teaches Spo rts Eco no mics. He's pretty laid back and he's funny and likable, and he set the wo rld reco rd fo r the 40 0 m hurdles fo r men o ver
40 . He's very well co nnected to the spo rts wo rld as well, and likes Americans. Also Patricia Plackett is Canadian so she is easy to understand and is a really nice teacher
who actually cares abo ut her students and wants them to learn. Take her!
Green Inno vatio n with Patricia Placket was really interesting (if yo u did the readings)
Tro els Tro elsen fo r Spo rts Eco n. Aweso me class.
Fo reign Direct Investment and the Multinatio nal Co rpo ratio n had a trio o f pro fesso rs with extensive backgro unds in do zens o f develo ping natio ns aro und the wo rld, which
was an unusual co mbinatio n. Nico lai Po grebnyako v, the yo ung pro fesso r fro m Belarus, reminded me a lo t o f a Pro f. Vo igt pro tege. Very shrewd strategist and definitely the
best pro fesso r I to o k a co urse with. Also , Green Inno vatio n, despite being diso rganized (pro bably since its a brand-new co urse), wo uld be a go o d cho ice fo r green
business enthusiasts. After all, Denmark is a wo rld leader when it co mes to these "alternative" business to pics.
Psycho lo gy o f Influence
"Intercultural Business Co mmunicatio n" with Susanne Lassen. The class was o nly 2 ho urs o nce per week and the teacher is nice and easy to listen to . "Spo rts
Eco no mics" wasn't bad either, especially if yo u're in to spo rts. And it's o nly a 6 -week co urse, so I didn't even start this class until late Octo ber.
Definitely, I appreciate I go t to take a bro ad range o f to pics: green inno vatio n, psycho lo gy o f decisio n making and risk mgmt, spo rts eco no mics. and internet marketing.
Spo rts Eco no mics, Green Inno vatio n; great, interesting, intelligent pro fesso rs.
I really like Ro bert Strand fo r Co rpo rate So cial Respo nsibility; passio nate American pro fesso r who is really kno wledgeable abo ut the subject. Also Susanne Lassen fo r
Intercultural Business Co mmunicatio n; super nice and easy go ing. Tro els Tro elso n fo r Spo rts Eco n; quirky guy with lo ts o f energy
I to o k Internatio nal Management, Internatio nal Co rpo ratio ns and Glo bal Markets, Organising Glo bal Businesses and Marketing, and Spo rts Eco no mics. The first three
co urses were all similar and bo ring. Ho wever, they were no t very difficult so I wo uld reco mmend taking them as lo ng as yo u do the reading. Spo rts Eco no mics is
interesting and there are many guess speakers. Also , yo ur grade is based o n a final paper o n a to pic o f yo ur cho o sing so yo u do no t have to kno w any o f the info rmatio n
in class, go ing to class is just fo r yo ur o wn interest. I wo uld reco mmend taking classes with take ho me papers/48 hr ho me exams because they are less stressful and yo u
do no t need to study as much fo r them.
No .
Spo rts Eco no mics with Tro els Tro elso n is a must - yo ur who le grade is a self-selected paper o n a spo rt o f yo ur cho ice! And he takes yo u to spo rt events all aro und the
city. Internatio nal Management was easy and interesting: studied fo r abo ut 2 ho urs fo r a 4 ho ur exam, to o k the exam in half the time and sco red a perfect. Internatio nal
Co rpo ratio ns and Glo bal Markets: medio cre co ntent but easy exam - 5 page paper assigned o ver 2 days. Management o f the Creative Pro cess: really co o l and interesting
class, I still flip thro ugh the bo o k.
No
I wo uld take Spo rts Eco no mics as the teacher was really co o l and interactive. Yo u also get to go to a few spo rting events in Denmark and talk to so me impo rtant execs.
The final was also a take ho me paper abo ut anything related to spo rts, so if yo ur into that subject it sho uld be really simple. The o ther classes I to o k, Internatio nal
Management and Internatio nal Business Enviro were interesting to o , but no thing special, and the finals were easy.
Psycho lo gy o f Influence - Jaco b De Lichtenberg Spo rts Eco no mics - Tro els Tro elsen
Green Inno vatio n - Very basic co urse material - Final pro ject is a gro up syno psis o f a green inno vatio n o f yo ur cho ice and then yo u have a 20 minute o ral o n the
inno vatio n/co urse material - pro fesso r is a bit strict but if yo u are o n to p o f the info a relatively easy class Spo rts Eco no mics - pro fesso r is a very co o l guy but can be a bit
chauvinist - yo u also get the o ppo rtunity to attend spo rting events (so ccer, ho rse racing, etc) in the co penhagen area - final is a 12 page paper o n anything related to spo rts
eco no mics - very easy/fun class
Spo rts Eco no mics- Tro els Tro elso n. Go to spo rting events, entertaining teacher and subject
I wo uld take my exact schedule all o ver again if I co uld. I had the best classes if yo u want ample time to travel and enjo y life in Co penhagen. Take these 3 classes in Q3: 1.
Internatio nal Co rpo ratio ns and Glo bal Markets (E137) 2. Internatio nal Management (E31) 3. Management o f Creative Pro cesses (MACP) and in Q4 take o nly: Spo rts
Eco no mics (E6 8 4) This scho o l schedule fulfilled my USC requirements and allo wed me to travel abro ad.
CSR
Scandinavian Sustainability and CSR: iro nically, this class is taught by an American but the co ncepts it teaches thro ugh the lenses o f the Scandinavian regio n, that perfo rms
so well in CSR, is a unique o ppo rtunity. If yo u are go ing to take a CSR class, yo u might as well take it at a business scho o l that wo rks with the best in the field.

I advise no t taking Internet Marketing taught by Ravi V. He was very diso rganized and very unengaged. He just read the slides o ut to us in lecture. He did no t make the to pic

Psycho lo gy o f Decisio n Making; very unengaged pro fesso r.
No ne, all co urses were go o d fo r me.
I wo uld reco mmend no t taking a finance class. Mo st peo ple do no t study o n a daily/weekly basis, which is so mething necessary when taking finance. Also , finance tends to
be so mething that yo u need to have taught to yo u versus just being able to read a bo o k abo ut the to pic. Therefo re, I think it is difficult to take a finance class abro ad (unless
yo u lo ve finance and are really go o d at it).
No .
I remember a lo t o f my friends stressing o ut o ver the EU Law final exam, but they said it didn't end up being that bad.

Naming and Framing: A Creative Vehicle fo r Wo rdmaking: An issue with classes at CBS in so me instances is that pro fesso rs may seem distant fro m the classro o m

The subject matter is also dry and had little to do with brand management/marketing which was what initially go t me interested in the class. (side no te: classes may have

Yes, it has helped me to understand ho w big this wo rld is and ho w many o ppo rtunities there are to take advantage o f internatio nal business
Yes, I am very interested in wo rking in internatio nal business.
It has enco uraged me to wo rk in a multinatio nal co rpo ratio n o r in a fo reign co untry.
This has given me a wo rld perspective. Euro pe is a very different place than the US and EVERY American sho uld experience life o utside o f the States.
It sho wed me that being abro ad is a great experience, but I'm no t sure I'm the type o f perso n who co uld live o n the o ther side o f the wo rld fo r years o n end, so no w I kno w

I want to wo rk and live in a fo reign co untry in the future!
Yes-- I have met peo ple fro m all o ver the wo rld. Things like co mmunicatio n are drastically impro ved.
Yes. In my o pinio n, it has increased my academic and career po ssibilities and I am less wo rried abo ut sticking to specific go als I had last year. Since I enjo yed living in
Denmark so much and had a decent amo unt o f success with the difficult Danish language in a very sho rt span o f time, I have left the po ssibility o f living o r wo rking there
again wide o pen (and no w I kno w what are my o ptio ns and who to co ntact if I return).
No
The majo r things I learned in this pro gram were no t in the classro o m. I had the o ppo rtunity to travel A LOT and I feel like it's had given me a lo t o f insight into o ther cultures
as well as myself. I feel mo re co nfident and enthusiastic to pursue my go als in the future.
Yes; I realized that I want to spend mo re time abro ad and lo o k fo r emplo yment elsewhere (i.e. No t LA). I also realized I am very interested in Sustainable develo pment and
Green Inno vatio n.
Made me realize I want to go into sustainable develo pment.
It made me o pen to the idea o f wo rking abro ad fo r a few years o r perhaps studying abro ad o nce again if I have the chance. Met lo ts o f peo ple who did their MBA abro ad, so
co uld be a po ssibility fo r me in the future
I want to co ntinue to learn mo re abo ut o ther cultures and wo rk in internatio nal business
No , I was pretty disappo inted with the quality o f the educatio n.
I am no w mo re familiar with the EU markets and practices and feel I'd be mo re fit to wo rk abro ad there at so me po int.
Yes, I am certain no w that I wo uld like to pursue a career co ncerning internatio nal relatio ns
Ya definetely. It really made me want to spend mo re time abo rad and po ssibly even live in so me o f the places I vistied. Wo uld fo r sure serio usly co nsider taking a jo b

no t really
Studying abro ad has reaffirmed my desires to expand my career abro ad, ho pefully in the near future.
It's definitely furthered my interest in wo rking abro ad, and helped me build co nnectio ns with students aro und the wo rld.
Yes, I realized that I lo ve to travel and wo uldn't mind wo rking abro ad fo r a few years after co llege.
I am mo re clear what lifestyle suits me better.
My career go als have no t necessarily changed, but perhaps no w, I co nsider ho w I co uld expand my search based o n the co ntacts I made abro ad.

T e xt Re spo nse
I to o k the danish crash co urse but the speed and accent o f the language made it difficult to understand peo ple, but the danish co urse was helpful in aspects o f gro ceries o r
fo o d etc.
I to o k a crash co urse in Danish the week befo re the intro ductio n week in Co penhagen.
There is a crash co urse befo re o rientatio n so we learned so me o f the basic phrases.
No , but I to o k the "Danish Crash Co urse" at the beginning o f the semester. It is a o ne-week co urse which teaches yo u the essentials (hello , thank yo u, excuse me, etc).
This was very helpful.
Yes, One week o f training
No
No . We to o k the week lo ng Danish Crash Co urse and learned the basics like "Hi" and "excuse me."
We received a "crash co urse," which was eno ugh time to learn yo ur "pleases, thank yo us, cheers, and hello s, and go o dbyes.," - The language is very difficult, but I
enco urage anyo ne who has the o ppo rtunity to try and learn it.
I to o k a 5 day "Danish Crash Co urse" but it did no t aid in my understanding o f the language lo ng-term.
I to o k a crash co urse in Danish, but it's o ne o f the hardest languages in the wo rld to learn, so I sto pped after that.
No
Yes, no t much tho ugh. A 1 week crash co urse at the beginning.
Yes, I tried to learn so me very basic phrases o ver winter break befo re leaving and that co vered abo ut the first day o f what I learned in the crash co urse. During the five-day
crash co urse, a week befo re the o fficial o rientatio n, I expo nentially increased my language skills and finally had co nfidence to ho ld sho rt co nversatio ns o utside o f class.
Mo st students that even attempt to try Danish sto p after that week, but I co ntinued with the partner scho o l called IA Spro g fo r a few mo nths after that with a grand to tal o f
three peo ple in my class (the o ther two had been residing in Denmark fo r years, tho ugh). The best part abo ut mo st students being intimidated is if yo u decide to co ntinue,
yo u get a who le lo t mo re perso nalized instructio n time. I became certified as pro ficient in Level I Danish by so me EU language co mmittee and had the o ptio n to test fo r
Level II but dro pped o ut to fo cus o n exams at the business scho o l.
No .
I did o ne day o f the Danish Crash Co urse, but that's it. Literally EVERYONE speaks great English, and Danish is impo ssibly hard to learn o r pro no unce. I easily go t thro ugh
the who le semester with o nly kno wing ho w to say "thank yo u."
Yes, I to o k a o ne week intro ducto ry Danish crash co urse.
Briefly at o rientatio n
Came in kno wing no Danish, still do n't kno w much Danish except fo r "hi" and "thank yo u." To o k the Danish crash co urse in the beginning o f the intro ductio n week, but it
was impo ssible to pro no unce any wo rds fo r me. It was helpful because I met lo ts o f peo ple in my class during that crash co urse week.
The Danish Crash Co urse: I wo uld reco mmend taking this because yo u get to kno w peo ple in yo ur class and during the activities at night and it is a little helpful to learn
so me Danish (but it is also very tiring to go to night events and then class especially since yo u are jet legged. Ano ther o ptio n is to no t take the class but co me fo r the week
and just do the night events).
Only phrases here and there to get by. I learned so me fro m lo cals. Almo st everything in the city is written in Danish.
I to o k the Danish Crash Co urse. It was a nice way to meet o ther students, but wasn't necessary as everyo ne in Denmark speaks 9 8 % perfect English. The co urse did help
with reading fo o d labels and stuff at gro cery sto res, which helped because we co o ked nearly every meal to save mo ney.
I to o k a language co urse at the Co penhagen Business Scho o l, ho wever learning the mo ther to ngue was no t necessary co nsidering almo st all Danes are pro ficient in
English. Regardless, if yo u are interested in learning Danish, the go vernment o ffers exceptio nal language co urses thro ugh CBS. Ho wever, Danish is an extremely difficult
language to learn and the co urses alo ne are no t eno ugh to master it. One must devo te significant time and energy o utside the classro o m to learning it.
No I didn't speak the language at all and didn't take the "crash co urse" they pro vide where yo u learn the basics. Anything in Danish is super hard to say besides the
basics...if that. I wo uld take the "crash co urse" tho ugh o nly because its the best time to meet all the exhange students and make friends. Otherwise yo u co me a week later
and peo ple already kno w each o ther which makes it harder.
everyo ne speaks english
I did no t speak Danish. During the Orientatio n week yo u have the o ptio n o f taking a Danish Crash Co urse. Danish is an extremely difficult language and yo u rarely need to
use it since everyo ne speaks perfect English. I wo uld HIGHLY reco mmend taking the Danish Co urse simply as an o ppo rtunity to meet o ther exchange students - there are
generally a co uple hundred o ther exchange students in to tal.
I participated in the "Crash Co urse" that was two weeks befo re scho o l started, and learned virtually no thing. It to tally depended o n the teacher yo u had, but I didn't need it at
all. It was a great way to meet peo ple early o n and they plan a lo t o f fun events in the evenings.
Yes, I signed up fo r the 1 week Danish Crash Co urse. Altho ugh yo u will be no where near fluent after o ne week, yo u meet a lo t o f kids in yo ur pro gram.
No
It is impo ssible to learn Danish while yo u study abro ad. Mainly because everyo ne (and I mean everyo ne) speaks English at a pro ficient level. Because o f this, it is hard to
pick up the language beyo nd the casual greetings and phrases. Unless, yo u are actually trying to learn Danish thro ugh a co urse, which CBS do es o ffer, it will be difficult to
learn. And the students who I met fro m o ther universities that were required to take the asso ciated fo reign language with the co untry, had an abso lute miserable time taking
the class. But if yo u are o ne o f tho se language wizards, do n't let me sto p yo u fro m co ming to CBS because o f the language. In reality, I tho ught that no t having to learn
Danish made my ability to co nsume Danish culture so much easier. The co mmunicatio n barrier between fo reign student and lo cal Dane is much lo wer than yo ur average
fo reign co untry. And in the end, yo u will learn the 'impo rtant' Danish wo rds.
No . I to o k the 5 day Danish crash co urse at the start o f the semester, but what little I kno w o f the Danish language I have learned fro m daily life, no t the co urse. Everyo ne in
Denmark speaks English, but they default with speaking Danish until yo u start speaking in English.

Do n't sweat it. Mo st Danes (aro und Co penhagen and o ther big to wns, at least) speak near-perfect English. Nevertheless, I'd reco mmend picking up as much Danish as

46 . Is there any aspect o f the pro gram that yo u wo uld like to see changed
o r different? (VERY IMPORTANT!)
T e xt Re spo nse
I wo uld like to find o ut mo re abo ut the ho using, classes, o r thingsg available to me so o ner. But in so me cases its no t up to us.
Onsite help with classes was very difficult to get.
No , o verall I was very satisfied with the pro gram given the reso urces that they have. Are very acco mmo dating to the internatio nal students and make sure that we feel
welco med.
Mo st o f the do rms available to us to cho o se fro m were o nly internatio nal student do rms. Therefo re it was very difficult to meet Danes since o ur who le do rm was full o f
internatio nal students. Furthermo re, the classes we to o k were all in English so that was also unhelpful to meet Danes since there were o nly 1 o r 2 Danes in them (Danes
who were English majo rs). I do n't think it is so mething USC can change, but I wo uld suggest it to CBS. Also , many o f the Danish buddies were flaky o r never present.
Tho ugh I had a great Danish buddy, he ended up having to help my friends to o since they never met their buddies o r their buddies never reached o ut to them o r respo nded.
I wo uld like to see mo re invo lvement fro m the Danish buddies.

No t really. The peo ple here co o rdinating o ur internatio nal pro gram have been aweso me. It is up to yo u to take advantage o f the activities they pro vide.
Mo re preparatio n befo re go ing abro ad.
When all we have to do is "pass" the co urse, it is difficult to get yo urself to attend class, study, o r be invo lved in the subject in any way.
The CBS Internatio nal Office is quite diso rganized. Makes yo u realize that USC is really o n to p o f their stuff. Basically, do n't get o verly frustrated...yo u are in Euro pe, so
stress sho uld no t be in yo ur vo cabulary!
No thing o n USC's end, but the CBS peo ple are very diso rganized and difficult to deal with. They need to get their act to gether.
No
No ne. It was incredible. Change no thing.
In terms o f CBS's ho using co o rdinatio n, their ho using department was weeks behind schedule in preparing the new IT system fo r the applicatio n pro cess. Even when it
was co mpleted, the new system required yo u to co mmit to the ho using o ffering they gave yo u within 30 minutes o r yo u wo uld have to start o ver again. It was mo re
stressful than necessary, but fo r me it thankfully wo rked o ut fine.
No t o n the USC side. But fo r Co penhagen there internet ho using applicatio n was very unacceptable. They did no t have USC listed as a scho o l and they wo uld no t respo nd
to my emails and when I called fo r suppo rt they were unhelpful saying that I wo uld just have to wait fo r my scho o l to be po sted. Because o f this I was no t given student
ho using and I feel that I missed o ut o n a big aspect o f getting to kno w o ther internatio nal students. They did supply me with ho using but I was iso lated fro m o ther students
and it to o k me a very lo ng time to get to campus.
I didn't like ho w classes, finals, and ro o m lo catio ns can rando mly change. Registering fo r classes was a co nfusing and diso rganized pro cess. It's no t really and issue with
the pro gram, but mo re CBS. Fo r a business scho o l, I was very surprised at the apparent diso rganizatio n all aro und.
No , my experienced reached my expectatio n and mo re.
No ne; everything exceeded my expectatio ns.
I wo uld have liked the CBS ho using co o rdinatio n to be better; we were relo cated to a new residence a week o r two befo re leaving fo r Co penhagen. We were mo ved to a
new residence that wasn't even an o ptio n when we cho se ho using. It wo rked o ut fine tho ugh, just the sudden change was inco nvenient.
I think that an o rientatio n dinner with all the USC students go ing to a lo catio n and the students fro m that lo catio n o n exchange at USC wo uld be very beneficial.
Much better co mmunicatio n between the Co penhagen Business Scho o l administrative departments (academic and ho using) and exchange students. It was always difficult
to get a ho ld o f them. So metimes it wo uld take many days to receive a reply and so metimes there wo uldnt even be a reply.
There was an issue befo re we arrived where the building 6 0 students were suppo sed to live in was deemed uninhabitable so we all go t reassigned. It ended up wo rking
o ut fo r the better but it to o k a while to get o ur rent refunds to co mpensate the difference and we were so rt o f blind to the pro cess. Other than that it was a perfect semester.
n/a
On USC's end its really go o d no co mplaints. At CBS the ho using department can be difficult to deal with. Other than that no thing serio us.
Better ho using co o rdinatio n o n part o f CBS.
The CBS ho using department was pretty much wo rthless. They rarely co uld answer questio ns and when there was an issue they didn't fo llo w thro ugh very well o n
co rrecting it.
Their ho using department is a nightmare, but o therwise everything was great.
Getting ho using was difficult in Co penhagen. I went thro ugh CBS and luckily go t a single do wnto wn. The o nline system is extremely co nfusing. Ho pefully they fix it fo r future
students.
Let students kno w what they sho uld expect and adding mo re o ptio ns o f scho o ls.
Because the study abro ad pro cess starts with pre-depature to re-arrival o ver the co urse o f several mo nths, issues that seem impo rtant in the beginning will subside and
maybe o ther issues will gro w in impo rtance later. I do n't have any gripes with the pro gram, but if I think o f so mething I will bring it up. I wo uld say that 9 9 % o f issues o r
co mplaints with the pro gram happen befo re departing. Once yo u are o n the gro und in the ho st co untry, pro blems are much easier to so lve (ho using, classes, etc.)
I wish there was mo re assistance with getting a residency permit, but I figured it o ut just fine o n my o wn.

CBS administratio n o ffices had difficult ho urs o f o peratio n to wo rk with. They were o nly o pen a few ho urs a day and o nly o n certain days, definitely no t o n weekends. If yo u

Po o r co o rdinatio n at CBS. Classes change ro o ms mid-semester, rando mly take weeks o ff, and no bo dy had any idea o f when the finals wo uld be until abo ut a mo nth
befo rehand. Also , o ne new teacher had no idea ho w the grading system wo rked, and when he asked seaso ned co lleagues fo r advice, they were just as clueless and had
been "feeling" their way thro ugh grading finance exams all these years. Ridiculo us!
CBS did an AMAZING jo b getting us acquainted with bo th the city and the scho o l. They get aro und 50 0 exchange students fro m all o ver the wo rld each semester, so they
really have their exchange pro gram perfected. They have a to n o f activities befo re the semester to help yo u meet peo ple.
CBS internet systems are very dated.
Ho pefully it wo n't happen again, but they serio usly messed up o n the ho using fo r all internatio nal students this semester. It was repeatedly delayed and then when yo u
finally co uld apply fo r ho using, there were serio usly flaws in the o nline system so it rando mly wo uldn't let so me peo ple register and made it lo o k like it was full. Every
internatio nal student I talked to experienced pro blems with applying fo r ho using and many no t o nly didn't get the ho using they wanted, but didn't get ho using at all.

Mo st Euro pean ho using o ffices are slo wer, and Denmark is no exceptio n, but if yo u want so mething do ne fast, yo u can make it happen. Simply call them o r go to the o ffice

If yo u do n't like yo ur class schedule just ask and they will very likely change it fo r yo u. Besides in ho using, they are very acco mmo dating to exchange students.

T e xt Re spo nse
I traveled a decent amo unt o n the weekends and 2 trips during weeks o ff. I traveled to Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, England, Sco tland, Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, and
the Netherlands
Almo st every week. Aro und Euro pe.
I traveled abo ut half o f the weekends o f the semester. I traveled to Lo ndo n, Sicily, No rway, Berlin, Prague, Austria, Sweden, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris
I traveled every weekend the 2nd and 3rd mo nths since Co penhagen weather was crappy anyway. I made my schedule so all my classes wo uld be o n Tuesday and
Wednesday so I usually traveled Thursday-Mo nday. I stayed in Co penhagen the rest o f the time which was great since the weather go t warmer. I highly reco mmend staying
in Co penhagen during the warmer mo nths since it has great parks to play spo rts/relax in, Tivo li amusement park is o pen, and peo ple just lo ve to be o utside since it's
sunny and nice. Places I traveled to : -Go tebo rg, Sweden -Venice, Italy fo r Carneval -Canary Islands, Spain -Malmo , Sweden -Lo ndo n, England -Prague, Czech Republic Budapest, Hungary -Krako w, Po land -Oslo , No rway -Aro und Denmark
Almo st biweekly, everywhere in euro pe
to tal o f like 3 weeks. i went to amsterdam, o xfo rd, paris, lo ndo n, venice, flo rence, milan, malmo , lund
Sweden, Spain, France, Italy, Prague, Budapest, Ireland
2 Trips planned by the university (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) - One cruise to Oslo , No rway and ano ther trip planned by a student to Russia (Sto ckho lm to Helsinki to
Mo sco w to St. Petersberg to Tallinn). Rented a car and dro ve to Berlin (auto bahn also highly reco mmended!). Paris and Lo ndo n fo r weekend trips. Co sta del So l (So uth o f
Spain) fo r a week at the end o f the semester (we deserved it, Co penhagen is co ld!). Made a po int no t to travel to o much, and I am happy fo r it!
Once, twice, three times per mo nth. Mo sco w, St Petersburg, Riga, Helsinki, Oslo , Sto ckho lm, Malmo , Paris, Fes, Marrakesh, Agadir, Casablanca, Berlin, Barcelo na, Madrid,
To ledo , Amsterdam, Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp, Prague. Co penhagen has a lo t o f flight o ptio ns and getting to the airpo rt is super easy.
I traveled frequently thro ugho ut Euro pe. I visited mo st o f the co untries in Euro pe west o f the Czech Republic.
I traveled a lo t o ver spring break, and then o nly 3 weekends o ther than that. Went to Sto ckho lm, Paris, Nice, Brussels, Amsterdam, Cinque Terre (Italy), Flo rence, Vienna,
and Prague.
Spo radically. Made it to 12 co untries.
I mo stly stayed within Denmark and spent o nly three weeks o utside o f Co penhagen in six mo nths. On my rando m days o ff, I explo red mo st suburbs and to wns aro und the
capital, thanks to the aweso me public transit system o f trains and buses, and I also spent a weekend in Skagen at the no rthernmo st po int in Denmark. Ho wever, I did make
three day trips acro ss the so und to Malmö and Lund in Sweden, spent spring break aro und Lithuania and Latvia, to o k a week o ff in no rthern Italy and Slo venia, and relaxed
befo re finals fo r a few days in Berlin. So me o f my favo rite lesser-kno wn places aro und Co penhagen were Faxe, Ølstykke, Tisvildeleje, and Jersie Strand (Denmark's
Jersey Sho re, kind o f).
I traveled six times. 2xBerlin, Malmo , Italy, England and Austria
Almo st every single weekend, which was amazing. I went to : Lo ndo n, England; Prague, Czech Republic; Bo rnho lm Island (part o f Denmark); Sto ckho lm, Sweden; Vienna,
Austria; Berlin, Germany; Helsinki, Finland; Granada & Madrid & Barcelo na, Spain; Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Budapest, Hungary; and Marrakech, Mo ro cco .
I travelled pro bably every three weekends. I went to Berlin twice, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Oslo , and St. Galen.
Abo ut every third weekend; Berlin, Oslo , Amsterdam, Istanbul, St. Galen, Munich
I hardly traveled during the first few mo nths. I went to Berlin a mo nth into the pro gram then stayed in Co penhagen fo r two mo nths straight with o nly sho rt day trips to
Sweden. Lo ts o f peo ple traveled to ns, but I enjo yed staying in the city and explo ring it even tho ugh it was freezing. Just came back fro m easter break travel (2 weeks) and
went to : Madrid, Barcelo na, So uth o f France, and Amsterdam. In a week, I'm heading to Prague. Do ing mo st travel at the end o f the pro gram with my family. It's really
expensive to fly o ut o f Co penhagen, so if yo u can hit many cities in o ne trip, yo u sho uld do it in o rder to save mo ney by no t flying back to Co penhagen.
I travelled to Berlin, Germany; Prague, Czech Republic; Oslo , No rway; Manchester, England; and Zermatt, Switzerland o n weekend trips spread thro ugho ut the semester.
Then, I went o n an o rganized trip with many peo ple fro m my residence to Tallin, Esto nia; Helsinki, Finland; St Petersburg, Russia; Mo sco w, Russia; Riga, Latvia;
Go thenburg, Sweden; and Sto ckho lm, Sweden which was a lo t o f traveling but an amazing trip.
I gro uped all my travels within a 1.5 mo nth perio d and travelled thro ugho ut Denmark, Amsterdam, Dublin and Prague.
Early in the semester no t so much, but o nce April came, I traveled all o ver the place. Germany, Spain, Po land, France, England, Sweden, No rway, Iceland, Netherlands,
Czech Republic
very o ften; Paris, Lo ndo n, Amsterdam, No rway, Sweden, Germany, Italy
I traveled a lo t and yo u co uld go at anytime during the semester really. My friend and I go t a "Euro Rail" pass that allo wed 10 days o f travel within a mo nths time by rail .
Went to places in Germany (Okto berfest is a must), Austria, Prague, Switzerland, Barcelo na, Paris, Belgium, Amsterdam, and Sweden. Even with all the traveling it still
allo wed me to get to kno w Co penhagen pretty well and being able to travel to a lo t o f different places was to ns o f fun and interesting.
A few times. Berlin, Ro tterdam, Amsterdam, Prague, Budapest, Bucharest, Istanbul, Kiev, Italy, Spain.
In the first two mo nths I traveled nearly every week. The weather in CPH is very co ld at that time and I had barely anything to do with my classes so I used that time to travel.
The last two mo nths there I did no t travel except fo r a week trip with my family between quarters.
England, Germany, Po land, Czech Republic, Hungary, Sweden, No rway, Cro atia
I wo uld travel ro ughly every 2 to 3 weeks. I went to Berlin, Budapest, Lo ndo n, Ibiza, Barcelo na, Sweden, No rway, and Amsterdam
Twice a mo nth, mo stly in EU
3: the first to no rway, the seco nd was to belgium and budapest, the third to ro me. i kno w students who traveled to mo re co untries than yo u co uld co unt o n two hands
tho ugh.
Once o r twice a mo nth in the beginning, no w that classes have ended early, all the time. Sto ckho lm, Berlin, Dublin, Lo ndo n, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, ro ad trip thro ugh all
o f Switzerland, Salzburg, Munich, Amsterdam, Madrid, Seville, Lago s, Lisbo n, Paris.

51. Did the structure o f the ho st institutio n's co urse schedule fo ster travel
o ppo rtunity o r prevent it? Why?
T e xt Re spo nse
It fo stered travel because i o nly had classes 3 days a week and they give a week break halfway thro ugh the semester. Also , my classes ended a full 2 weeks befo re my
finals.
Yes, I o nly had class three days o ut o f the week, so I had mo re time to travel.
Yes it co mpletely did. Classes are no t scheduled fo r every day o f the week so it was very easy to take lo ng weekends and travel. Also , the Internatio nal Office ho sted trips
fo r the exchange students so we go t to travel as a huge gro up also which was a really fun way to get to kno w all o f the o ther exchange students.
See abo ve
fo ster, easy classes and times...
YEAH. classes are o nly a few days a week. travel early (if yo u miss classes early it's no t really a big deal. it is pretty east to catch up)
Yes, because classes do no t meet every week.
FOSTER. I o nly had class 2-3 days per week, which were o ptio nal anyways.
Fo ster. So me classes lasted the first 2 mo nths and o thers, the last 2 mo nths. Taking 4 classes, this dictates that yo u o nly have 2 classes at a time. Or, yo u co uld take all o f
yo ur classes at the beginning o r end, entailing a 2 o r so mo nth free perio d.
It definitely fo stered travel. I scheduled my classes such that I really o nly had o ne day o f class a week, that way I co uld bring my bo o ks with me and read tho se o n the train
rides aro und Euro pe. Go o d way to do it!
Fo ster; all the classes are o n different schedules so there are so me weeks where yo u might o nly have 1 class fo r the who le week.
Allo wed it. So me classes were already o ver by Spring break and missing so me classes is all but expected.
Yes, because mo st pro fesso rs expect mo st o f the studying to be do ne o utside o f class and place less emphasis o n lectures. There was mo re o f an o ppo rtunity to skip a
class here o r there if I felt like it.
It fo stered travel o ppo rtunities. Ho wever, I spent a lo t o f time with adviso r's trying to co o rdinate my schedule so I co uld have Friday o ff.
Definitely fo stered it. since classes o nly met o nce per week, I o nly had classes o n Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays so I travelled every weekend almo st, usually
spending 3 nights in each place. Also since there's a co mplete lack o f assignments, I really didn't have to wo rry abo ut keeping up with co ursewo rk. If I had been at USC, It
wo uld have been quite impo ssible fo r me to travel so much and even just pass my classes.
Fo stered travels; they did no t take into acco unt o f attendance,
Yes; attendance was o ptio nal and so me classes po sted lectures o nline.
Yes. I scheduled my class so that I had three o r fo ur day weekends, which allo wed me to travel when I wanted to o r just have a lo t o f do wn time in Co penhagen. I lo ved o ur
lo ng easter break, which was two weeks. This allo wed me to spend several days in each city instead o f sho rt weekend trips thro ugho ut the semester.
Yes, it fo stered travel o ppo rtunities because yo u do no t have to go to class and do no t need to study very much thro ugho ut the semester.
Bo th. It gave the o ppo rtunity because classes were o ptio nal but it also prevented it because yo ur class schedule was different every week and yo u do nt kno w exact dates o f
exam.
If yo u knew ho w to plan yo ur co urses. I to o k 3 co urses in the first quarter and o nly 1 in the seco nd quarter (which turned o ut to be semi o ptio nal). Due to this, I co uld pretty
much go anywhere.
Fo ster it; the semester at CBS is bro ken up into quarters so yo u are able to cho o se ho w heavy yo u want yo ur co urse lo ad to be in each qaurter. I cho se to take all my
co urses during the first qaurter, and did mo st o f my traveling the seco nd qaurter. Yo u can also cho o se to take classes that are o n specific days, and therefo re have specific
days o ff during the week fo r traveling. Also , attendance is no t taken in these classes so yo u may cho o se to no t attend so me class dates fo r traveling; that is, if yo u can stay
o n to p o f yo ur co urse wo rk! ;]
It fo r sure fo stered it. Since there was no ho mewo rk, attendence, o r o ther wo rk due until the 10 0 % final at the end o f the semester yo u co uld pretty much leave whenever
yo u wanted.
Fo stered
Very much fo sters travel - I o nly missed abo ut 2 classes all semester and traveled o ften, at least in the beginning o f the semester.
Definitely. Yo u do n't have to go to class and yo u can do all yo ur wo rk aro und the final date.
yes, traveling was enco uraged.
Fo ster it. It do esn't have much wo rk to do .
Yes, when yo ur grade is based 10 0 % o n the final, travel o ppo rtunities abo und.
Yes. Classes are 3 ho urs lo ng and o nly o nce a week. Tho ugh this is a lo ng time to sit in a classro o m, it makes yo ur class demands very lo w and helps yo u travel.

Bo o k at least 3 weeks in advance if flying. Flying o ut o f CPH is so easy and co nvenient, but so mewhat mo re expensive. Renting a car is also very easy and I highly
reco mmend it so yo u can see the rest o f Denmark o n yo ur o wn time. Cruises to Oslo , Amsterdam, Helsinki and o ther no rthern Euro pean co untries are cheap and really
fun!
Mo mo ndo .co m is the best site fo r co mparing flights. Co nsider indirect airpo rts (like Giro na fo r Barcelo na) and then take a bus/train to the city. Co nsider taking a bus o r train
to yo ur destinatio n rather than a flight...co nsidering airpo rt travel time, this co uld end up being the same amo unt o f time as flying.
Eurail passes are great if yo u have the time to co mmit to it. Train rides so und excessively lo ng but mo st are night trains so yo u sleep thro ugh the majo rity o f it. Much mo re
co mfo rtable than plane rides to o !
Travel during the winter because it's freezing, then enjo y Co penhagen in the Spring when it's (so mewhat) nicer!
Do a lo t o f ho stel research. They make o r break a trip. And find lo cals. Use co uchsurfing.co m
Spend less time mo ving between places (as in o n trains, planes, buses, etc.) and mo re time at fewer destinatio ns. Yo u will save mo re mo ney and have a lo t mo re fun. I
had a co uple friends who planned whirlwind Euro pean to urs and were bummed that they kept having to leave places fo r the next sto p right as they were starting to enjo y
them. Also , travel to a few o f yo ur dream vacatio n spo ts in o ther co untries, but try to spend mo st o f yo ur time in yo ur ho st city so yo u get a mo re co mplete study abro ad
experience. Fo r this pro gram in particular, Co penhagen is an aweso me city with endless po ssibilities fo r what to do . I came ho me with do zens o f activities still unchecked
o n my CPH "bucket list". Lastly, if yo u are bo o king a reservatio n say fo r a ho stel o nline, make sure to print o ut the co nfirmatio n page, because I knew o f a few peo ple who
had to make so me last-minute changes when the ho stels lo st their reservatio ns.
Take advantage o f the student trips. In the case o f Co penhagen, lo o k at its neighbo ring co untries because they have a lo t to o ffer and easy travel thro ugh train and bus.
I flew pretty much everywhere I traveled. I reco mmend BOOKING FLIGHTS EARLY!!! Yo u can get so me great deals if yo u bo o k early eno ugh. And staying in ho stels is a
great way to save mo ney o n acco mmo datio n. And just a warning, Co penhagen is SERIOUSLY EXPENSIVE. Just basic gro ceries and transpo rtatio n can put a serio us dent
in yo ur bank acco unt.
Buy tickets early, do n't feel scared to travel alo ne, and be o pen-minded.
Do n't plan all yo ur trips befo rehand because yo u might want to travel with peo ple yo u meet abro ad/o n the way. the budget airlines will still be cheap last minute.
Stay with friends who are studying in o ther cities. Use mo mo ndo .dk fo r cheap flights. It's expensive to fly o ut o f Co penhagen because it's no t a huge hub, RyanAir do esn't
fly o ut o f Co penhagen
Travel with peo ple fro m yo ur residences o r visit peo ple that are abro ad but make sure to be in the co untry yo u are living in to o !
Do n't bo o k yo ur trips to o far in advance. Learn ho w to co o k.
Co penhagen can be expensive to fly o ut o f because its no t a majo r hub. Use MOMONDO.co m to find relative airline rates, then bo o k directly thro ugh the airline to save o n
service fees. Yo u can use Euro Lines.co m fo r Bus ro utes (wo rks well to Berlin). /// HOSTELBOOKERS and HOSTELWORLD are essential and will save yo u mo ney /// Try to
stay with friends in the cities yo u visit - yo u'll save o n acco mmo datio n and get a mo re lo cal experience
Take advantage o f all the traveling o ppo rtunities the university pro vides fo r exchange students! They are so much fun, o ffer great prices, and are usually better arranged
than trips yo u wo uld arrange fo r yo urself.
Make sure yo u pack light as yo u will mo st likely need to walk aro und a lo t and its easier to carry yo ur stuff then ro ll it. I'd reco mend using trains and lo o king into a Euro Rail
pass as that was pretty co o l and I go t o t go to a lo t o f places fo r cheap. Also be sure to use ho stelwo rld.co m to find ho stels as they are way cheaper, mo re fun, and yo u
meet to ns o f peo ple co mpared to real ho tels. Its also an experience fo r sure.
use mo mo ndo fo r flights.
Use mo mo ndo .co m fo r bo o king flights, it was co nsistently the cheapest o ptio n. Wait until yo u get there to bo o k trips, yo u will want to travel with peo ple yo u meet there. I
kno w everyo ne says this but make sure yo u spend eno ugh time in CPH. I wo uld reco mmend traveling in the beginning o f the semester and staying in CPH near the end
when the weather impro ves.
Use skyscanner.dk and mo mo ndo .dk when yo u're in Denmark. Wiki-travel is a great reso urces fo r transpo rtatio n info in-co untry. Ride a bike in Co penhagen when the
weather is nice eno ugh, yo u'll experience so much mo re o f the city and learn yo ur way aro und. Get a metro pass if it's sno wing- if yo u do n't, yo u will get caught and
charged $10 0 +
Remember to enjo y living in Co penhagen. There is so much to do /see there, and a lo t o f kids o n my pro gram were go ne every weekend and didn't really get the experience
o f living in Denmark.
Prepare early and make decisio ns early. Value quality o ver quantity.
the natural thinking is to go in the beginning, but I fo und this difficult because I was no t sure who to travel with yet. The go o d news is that everyo ne is in the same bo at, so it
wo nt be hard to find yo ur travel mates eventually. I also enco urage yo u to lo o k up events o r festivals that yo u are interested in to acco mmo date yo ur travels. Fo r me, that
was attending the Ro me Internatio nal Film Festival in No vemeber 20 12. Fo r Belgium, my friends and I attended an all night EDM fest called I Lo ve Techno in Ghent,
Belgium. In general tho ugh, these trips tho ught will create memo ries fo r a lifetime. Its no secret that travelling is a huge part o f go ing to ano ther scho o l. Studying abro ad
was such a go o d experience fo r me that it o ften felt like 'being o n vacatio n.' So travelling while abro ad felt like go ing o n a vacatio n fro m a vacatio n. ALWAYS practice safe
habits, as much as yo u can co ntro l, when travelling and be wary o f co uchsurfing, even tho ugh it can be really fun!
Bo o k thro ugh Skyscanner.co m! They sho w yo u the best rates available o n flights. The cheapest airlines are EasyJet and RyanAir, but I prefer EasyJet (plus RyanAir do esn't
fly o ut o f Co penhagen, but Malmo , Sweden, which yo u have to take the train to ). Trains are much mo re expensive than they used to be, so flying is the best o ptio n. Bo o k in
advance!!! Ho stelwo rld.co m is also helpful, and TripAdviso r has great tips. If yo u like to learn abo ut everything yo u see in different lo catio ns, Rick Steves writes great bo o ks
o n all cities in Euro pe with self-guided walking to urs, reco mmendatio ns o n acco mmo datio ns, restaurants, night life, etc.

Danes are also all beautiful and blo nde and so o fashio nable. Yo u wo n't find any fat peo ple o r peo ple wearing slo ppy o utfits.
To tell the truth, the Danish dating scene was mo st different fro m American standards and lead to misunderstandings. Co mmunicatio n helped reso lve it. Other than that,
Danish culture is very similar to American culture.
I've been to No rway many times because o f family so I had a go o d grip o n Scandinavian culture befo re hand. Ho wever, I did have to get used to the mo re reserved Danish

No ne co mes to mind. Altho ugh it was really strange fo r me to see babies left o utside sto res and cafes in their carriages while their parent went gro cery sho pping o r
grabbed a co ffee with a friend. It's to tally no rmal fo r Danes to do this, so do n't be alarmed. Babies just chill o utside o n their o wn and no o ne lo o ks twice in their directio n.
When I first arrived I questio ned why I decided to co me and leave USC which I lo ve so much. Ho wever, I so o n go t o ver it when I made friends with all the amazing peo ple I

Can't think o f anything serio us. Peo ple in Denmark as very nice and I never had any issues even when traveling. Just be respectful and aware o f their differences I guess.
Yo u're no t in the US anymo re and that will beco me very clear very quickly-but in go o d way.

I perso nally did no t really have any experiences but a lo t o f my friends felt ho mesick at vario us times. The best so lutio n is no t to sit in yo ur do rm ro o m, go o ut and do

Didn't really have much culture sho ck. They wait fo r the light to change befo re cro ssing the street tho ugh, and yo u can drink ANYWHERE (including while riding a bike).
Danish currency is interesting. I do no t miss it at all. The smallest bill is 50 kro ner. I had to divide everything by 5.5 to co nvert to USD.

In Denmark, efficient o rganizatio n and finding the natural way seem to be held paramo unt especially in its biking culture. My style o f bicycle riding in Lo s Angeles was no t
exactly co mpatible with tho se o f the Danes. I was used to ho pping curbs, running reds and do ing whatever I pleased to get me past cars. In Denmark riding a bike means
using lights at dark, hand signaling and general bike etiquette. Altho ugh my mo re aggressive style o f riding did no t warrant lo ud critiques fro m lo cals, I co uld just sense that
I wasn't being co urteo us. I think these smaller instances o f cultural misunderstanding that are no t no ticed readily can be mo re dangero us. I say that because yo u may no t
no tice yo ur behavio rs that are anno ying to lo cals. So i wo uld reco mmend being mindful o f yo ur presence especially in the first few weeks. Eventually I go t o ver the biking
issues by accepting the disparate bike cultures, but do nt get me wro ng, these misalignments in culture will pro vide eno rmo us learning o ppo rtunities.
There are peo ple in the wo rld who do n't like America, and they do n't mind sharing these o pinio ns. I say this no t abo ut peo ple in Co penhagen, but just abo ut so me peo ple
in vario us cities and co untries. When hearing these o pinio ns, I reso lved the cultural misunderstanding by allo wing these peo ple to get to kno w me and judge me fo r who I
am, no t where I am fro m.

I wish I knew ho w expensive everything is and ho w co ld it gets in the winter
That it's freezing co ld at first and then warm eno ugh to wear sho rts later. I bro ught all winter clo thes. I also wish I knew the sho wers had no tubs o r side barriers so the

also wish I knew there isn't peanut butter in Denmark since I ended up making my mo m ship so me. Eating a sit do wn meal o ut is SO expensive (>$50 ). I think I o nly ate o ut

Ho w to take an o ral exam!
Ho w co ld it was here!
I wish so meo ne had to ld me that they do n't have peanut butter in Denmark. Trust me, yo u'll miss it, so bring so me o ver with yo u!
Ho w painfully expensive everything is! Everyo ne said it but I just assumed everywhere in Euro pe wo uld be just as expensive- no t true! Co penhagen is pro bably THE mo st
expensive city in Euro pe (but also the best city! :))
I felt prepared.
I wish I knew no t to spend mo ney o n a bike when I co uld just ride the public transpo rtatio n o r ho p o n a free city bike. I spent almo st $8 0 and a co uple days trying to fix up

A better kno wledge o f my budget.
No t that much, I felt pretty prepared. I wish I had kno wn ho w expensive everything was and had budgeted better fro m the beginning. I wish I had kno wn it wo uld get so co ld!
And I wish I had bro ught medicine with me.
I wish I bo ught rain bo o ts and warm co ats fro m the US. I wish I changed my currency during the summer when the exchange rate was better. I

Remember to pack clo thes fo r the summer mo nths. I hardly have any clo thes fo r this warmer summer seaso n, so do n't pack to o many scarves, sweater, etc. Also I wish I

Co penhagen is EXTREMELY expensive so be prepared fo r that. Also , do no t try to co mpare Co penhagen prices to prices at ho me: in Co penhagen, a cheap meal is $20 .
The real extent o f expensive Co penhagen is.

Bo o k trips as far in advance as po ssible.

If yo u are in Denmark during the spring semester, remember to pack so me summer clo thes alo ng with all o f the co ld-weather gear. I accidentally o nly bro ught o ne pair o f

Travel light to yo ur destinatio n. Leave ro o m fo r things that yo u will purchase.
Bo o k flights early. Do n't bring yo ur who le wardro be with yo u. Stay fo r at least 3 nights if yo u visit so meplace, 2 just isn't eno ugh. Do n't fo rget to fully explo re Denmark to o !
Try to get reco mmendatio ns fro m trusted so urces (friends, go o d guide bo o ks) befo re yo u go o n the trip, learn the transpo rtatio n o f the city befo re yo u leave, and go to

I wo uld spread o ut yo ur travel and do n't travel to ns and to ns. Yo u really want to enjo y Co penhagen. If yo u are co nstantly away, yo u miss o ut o n fun events and just hanging

Make sure to try the lo cal fo o d because yo u learn so much abo ut the culture that way.
