B Montford S. P. No. 907 SENATE PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, J. Hadley Edgar, Jr., of Lubbock is retiring from the School of Law at Texas Tech University after a distinguished career spanning 20 years and the Texas Senate is proud to recognize the eminent professor for his valuable contributions to the field of law; and WHEREAS, His legacy of excellence in all his endeavors will continue to inspire others to higher levels of achievement; and WHEREAS, Recognized for his superior ability to communicate with his students, he was selected for the Outstanding Law Professor Award in 1982 and 1986 and was presented the President's Excellence in Teaching Award in 1982; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University and The University of Texas School of Law, Professor Edgar has served as Director of the Lubbock County Bar Association and the Amarillo Bar Association; and WHEREAS, From 1956 to 1971 he was associated in private practice with Gibson, Ochsner & Adkins in Amarillo; and WHEREAS, His considerable knowledge and expertise have made him invaluable as a private consultant to other attorneys in both state and federal trial and appellate courts; and WHEREAS, The author of numerous published articles, Professor Edgar collaborated on the Civil Trial Handbook of the State Bar of Texas and wrote pocket parts for several volumes of West's Texas Forms and Texas Practice; he has served as Editorial Consultant since 1988 for the 5-volume work, Texas Torts & Remedies; and WHEREAS, Active in several legal organizations, he has ably held the office of president of the Texas Tech Chapter, Order of the Coif, since 1974; and WHEREAS, The Board of Directors and Past Presidents of the State Bar of Texas presented Professor Edgar with the Certificate of Merit as one of the three most deserving members of the profession in 1983; and WHEREAS, This remarkable gentleman has served on nearly every committee of the Texas Tech Law School and is on the Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee and Education Committee; and S.P. No. 907 WHEREAS, His devotion to his profession and to the university has made him an invaluable teacher and colleague and he will be deeply missed by his associates in the school of law; now, therefore, be it PROCLAIMED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby commend J. Hadley Edgar, Jr., for his outstanding achievements and extend heartfelt appreciation to him from the citizens of Texas; and, be it further PROCLAIMED, That a copy of this Proclamation be prepared for Professor Edgar as an expression of the admiration and respect of the Texas Senate. ~a~he Senate
