Global Literacy Award Application The Global Literacy Award recognizes individuals who actively celebrate diversity and global awareness through participation and leadership in events, organizations, and activities. Upon completion of this form, applicants will be considered for a $1,000 scholarship to be used towards costs associated with a study abroad program. To be eligible for the award, individuals must demonstrate participation or leadership in at least four globally-oriented organizations, events, and activities on the Michigan Tech campus or in the community (i.e. Parade of Nations, Khana Khazana, International Club). Please provide the following information: FIRST NAME LAST NAME MAJOR E-MAIL PROGRAM PROVIDER PROGRAM LOCATION SEMESTER ABROAD YEAR ABROAD (i.e. 2017) M NUMBER 1. Please provide a brief description of each global activity you have participated in. Please also provide dates of duration. 2. Please write a short reflection on the events/activities you have participated in. How has your involvement exposed you to diverse cultures? How have they affected your understanding of diverse cultures? What did you take away from them? (350 - 500 words.) 3. Please describe how these experiences have developed your confidence and competence in an international or global setting. How have they developed your cultural knowledge and understanding of your own culture and prepared you to travel abroad. (350 - 500 words.) 4. Please write a proposal addressed to the Global Literacy Award Committee, outlining your commitment to a study abroad engagement activity following your study abroad experience, (i.e. study abroad outreach event). Your proposal should discuss how you will apply your experience learned abroad to engage the Michigan Tech community upon your return. (300 - 500 words.) SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS & DEADLINES: March 1 - For summer study abroad April 1 - For fall study abroad October 15 - For spring study abroad Once completed, please submit by E-Mail to studyabroad@mtu.edu Recipients of the Global Literacy Award will be notified two weeks prior to the posting of their Michigan Tech tuition bill for the study abroad session.
