AKARD SCHOLARSHIP Award donated by Donna Courville ('94) and Lee Ann Reno ('94) to recognize a third-year student who is a current member of Law Review, a current or former member of Board of Barristers or a current or former SBA officer or class officer who has excelled in service to the law school. A scholarship funded by contributions of the bench and bar to recognize Judge Akard's contributions to the field of bankruptcy law. THE AMERICAN BANKRUPTCY INSTITUTE MEDAL OF EXCELLENCE AWARD CONBOY AMBASSADOR AWARD Award is sponsored by the American Bankruptcy Institute, and is presented to a student who has demonstrated excellence in bankruptcy studies and exhibited an interest in pursuing a career in bankruptcy law. In addition to the engraved medal, winners receive a certificate signed by the American Bankruptcy Institute President and a one-year membership in the American Bankruptcy Institute. Award created by former Assistant for Recruitment and Admissions Dean Terence Cook to recognize the student who has gone above and beyond to assist the law school's recruiting program. During his deanship, Dean Conboy created the foundation for many successful relationships with undergraduate schools throughout the state. ELMA MORENO PRO BONO AWARD Award recognizes a law student whose pro bono activities best exemplify the lawyer's obligation to ensure equal access to justice. The award is named in honor of Elma Moreno, original coordinator for the Private Attorney Involvement for West Texas Legal Services, whose professionalism in service to clients is an inspiration to others. The award is funded by donations by Tamara Duncan (00). Tamara was the first recipient of the award. FRANK R. MURRAY AWARD Award and inscription of name on a permanently-displayed plaque to the student achieving the highest grade in the Creditors' Rights Course. The award is sponsored by the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar Association in memory of the former United States Bankruptcy Judge seated in the Lubbock Division. n j KENNETH H. BURNS AWARD II Award established by members of the Victor H. Lindsey Senate of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity to honor their outstanding Houston alumnus, awarded to students who are members of the national organization, in good academic standing, and actively involved in the local Senate. Mr. Burns has also been a generous contributor to this Fund. j FORTNEY AWARD FOR ETHICS In honor of Professor Susan Fortney, this award is given to the law student who exhibits outstanding moral and ethical conduct among his or her peers while attending law school. Funding is provided by Russell Devenport and Lincoln Goodwin of the Class of1998, and Michael Holley, Class of1999, the first recipient of this award. , THE ORDER OF THE COIF HINKLE, HENSLEY, SHANOR & MARTIN OIL AND GAS AWARD Award to the student achieving the highest grade in a section of oil and gas law from the Midland, Amarillo, Roswell and Santa Fe law firm. Membership in the only national legal honor society, selected from those students ranking in the highest ten percent of the graduating class whose character and activities in legal education indicate their worthiness for membership. EDWARD R. SMITH and NORTON BAKER TAX AWARD Class of2010 Award presented to a student who intends to practice in the tax area. Permanently endowed by Karl Clifford ('72) and Steve Krier ('77). PROFESSOR MARILYN PHELAN TAX AWARD Award provided by Michael Denham ('99) to a graduating student who has excelled in the Tax Clinic. WILLIAM R. MOSS AWARD Award presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding ac~omplishment in a trial advocacy course. The award was created by W~lham R. Moss, a partner in the Lubbock firm of Crenshaw, Dupree & MIlam. MItch Moss (92), a litigator in El Paso and the son of William Moss continues the award. Award was established by former students of Professor Pawlowic: Michael Denham ('99), R. Lee Barrett ('00) and Wade King ('03). It is presented to a second-year or third-year student based on the following criteria: 1) Demonstrated interest, ability, or aptitude in any aspect of commercial law, including, but not limited to, bankruptcy, banking law, or business entities. Potential development of keen legal analysis, based in part on classroom participation, interaction with other students or attorneys in the area of commercial law, and any applicable work outside of class. The recipient's grade from any of Professor Pawlowic's upper-level classes may also be considered. CLIFFORD W. SPENCER AWARD Award given to the student whose propensity to survive in law school by dogged persistence, or ability to adapt to adversity, or sheer force of personality or charisma, appeals to the admiration of the faculty. Presented by the late Judge Ken G. Spencer of Crane, in memory of Bertha and George Whipple. THE LINDAJ. KAMP SERVICE AWARD Award to a graduating law student whose service to the law school best represents the dedication, service and spirit of Linda Kamp. The award is named in honor and loving memory of Linda Kamp, who served the law school community for 21 years and was Registrar of the Law School from 1991 to 2002. The award was established and is funded by the Class of 2002. STUDENT DIVERSITY SERVICE AWARD Award acknowledging and honoring the efforts of a student who promotes understanding and appreciation for diversity in its multitude of forms at Texas Tech University School of Law. TEAM DIVERSITY AWARD Award recognizes the efforts of a student organization for promoting understanding and appreciation for diversity in its multitude of forms at Texas Tech University School of Law. ALI-ABA SCHOLARSHIP & LEADERSHIP AWARD Presented to the graduating law student who best represents a combination of scholarship and leadership-the qualities embodied by the American Law Institute and the American Bar Association. The award includes a one-year subscription to the Practical Lawyer, published by ALI-ABA and a copy of From Law School to Law Practice: The New Associate's Guide, Secoud Edition. LAW STAFF SERVICE AWARD Annual award created to recognize one staff member who has exhibited extraordinary service to the law school. FACULTY SERVICE AWARD Annual award presented to one faculty member who has made extraordinary contributions in serving the law school. OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS JUDGE MEADE F. GRIFFIN AWARD Award from Judge Griffin's former briefing attorneys to the graduating law student who, through industry, perseverance, integrity, and character, has best utilized the law school experience to improve and prepare for service to the profession and to mankind. GEORGE W. AND SARAH H. DUPREE AWARD Award to the member of the graduating class who, in the opinion of the student's colleagues, best exemplifies the ability desired in one soon to join the legal profession. OUTSTANDING PROFESSORS OF THE YEAR Certificates and inscription of name on a permanently-displayed plaque to the faculty members voted by the student body as outstanding professor in an election conducted by the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.
