options for completing the 18 credits required for this
section of their degree. They may:
• Create, in consultation with advisor and with advisor’s
permission, a concentration (18 cr): A concentration is
any collection of courses that can be shown to
contribute to the student's expertise in one area.
Courses can be drawn from more than one department
and may include Humanities courses.
• Earn a Certificate in Modern Language and Area Study.
• Earn a Certificate in Media or in Writing, or both.
These certificates require 21 credits, but 6 credits from
