PRACTICAL TASK P1. BALANCE CONTROL CHART Outline This procedure covers the repeated measurement of a fixed item over an extended period to identify any trend in instrument performance. Procedure You will be assigned one of the balances in E1.7. Brand/model ID 1.
Select an object that weighs 5‐20 g that will not vary over the period of a couple of months. It should be a continuous and durable solid, e.g. a coin. 2.
Label a ziplock bag which is where your item will be stored over the course of this exercise. 3.
When your balance is cleaned and levelled (M1) and its accuracy checked (P2) measure the weight of your item. 4.
This must be repeated every IM laboratory session until the second last week of semester. Reporting Requirements Store your results on an Excel spreadsheet, named P2_yourname and plot a graph of mass vs date. After the last reading is taken, submit the spreadsheet to your teacher. This is a compulsory task.
