With a mandate to address the issue of trout marketing in the neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh, a two days fish festival named “HIM FISH FESTIVAL-2013” was organised in Himachal Bhawan, Chandigarh on 20th and 21st October, 2013 by the Department of Fisheries, Himachal Pradesh. Sh. Thakur Singh Bharmouri, Hon’ble Minister of Forest & Fisheries, Himachal Pradesh was the Chief Guest whereas Sh. Tarun Sridhar, Principal Secretary (Fisheries), to the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh presided over the inaugural function. Him Fish Festival-2013 was organised by Department of Fisheries, Himachal Pradesh with the support of National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Himachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh Aquaculture Fishing and Marketing Society (HPAFMS), Bilaspur. Director-cum-Warden of Fisheries, Himachal Pradesh in his welcome address, paid gratitude to all the dignitaries for sparing their valuable time for the event and emphasised on the nutritional value of the trout fish as the trout fish being rich in Omega-3 Polyunsaturated fatty acids, it reduces the risk of fatal heart attacks by lowering blood fat levels and reducing blood clotting. Further, it is low fat, low calorie diet besides being an excellent source of iron, calcium, selenium and vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, & B12. In his inaugural address, Hon’ble Chief Guest, Sh. Thakur Singh Bharmouri also highlighted the value of Trout Fish in human diet and departmental efforts in the development of fisheries in Himachal Pradesh. Principal Secretary Fisheries to the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh also made the guests and the audience aware about the departmental activities and medicinal value of trout fish and how it is different from other fishes. 20 exhibition Stalls were set up in the festival, displaying various activities as well as achievements of the Department. In order to highlight nutritional value of trout and to promote trout fish in the city, raw as well as six recipes of trout fish were made available in the festival. 170 kg of trout fish valuing Rs. 76,500 was sold in the festival. A cultural programme was also organised in the evening on 20th October, 2013. Various groups performed the traditional folk songs and classical dances. The audience was mesmerised by the musical ambience along with relishing the Queen of water : trout fish.
