OUTSTANDING MEMBER AWARD--Cash award to the outstanding
member ofthe Board of Barristers as selected by the organization's members.
THE ELMA MORENO PRO BONO A WARD--Cash award which
recognizes a law student whose pro bono activities best exemplify the
lawyer's obligation to ensure equal access to justice. The award is named
in honor of Elma Moreno, original Coordinator of Private Attorney
Involvement for West Texas Legal Services, whose professionalism in
service to clients is an inspiration to others. The recipient's name will be
engraved on a plaque displayed in the law school. The award is funded by
a donation from Professors Tim and Daisy Floyd.
CONBOY AMBASSADOR A WARD-Cash award funded by Dean
Terence Cook to recognize the student who has volunteered to assist the
law school's recruiting program. During his deanship, Dean Conboy
created the foundation for many successful relationships with
undergraduate schools throughout the state.
INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT: SCHOLARSHIP
ABA-BNA AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE STUDY OF
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW-Certificate to student who has
distinguished himself or herself in the area of intellectual property.
CLIFFORD, FIELD, KRIER, MANNING, STONE & WILKERSON
TAXATION AW ARD--Cash award and inscription of name on a permanently
displayed plaque to a third-year student for outstanding achievement in
taxation.
FORTNEY A WARD FOR ETHICS--In honor of Professor Susan Fortney,
this award is given to the law student who exhibits outstanding moral and
ethical conduct among his or her peers while attending law school. The
recipient is selected from nominations submitted by the law school body;
presented by Russell Devenport and Lincoln Goodwin of the Class of 1998.

HINKLE, HENSLEY, SHANOR & MARTIN OIL AND GAS A WARD-Cash award to the student achieving the highest grade in a section of oil and
gas law from the Midland, Amarillo, Roswell and Santa Fe law firm.
THE ORDER OF THE COIF--Membership in the only national legal honor
society, selected from those students ranking in the highest ten percent of the
graduating class whose character and activities in legal education indicate
their worthiness for membership.
WILLIAM R. MOSS TRIAL ADVOCACY AWARD--Cash award to
students who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in a trial
advocacy course.
CLASS OF 2002
FRANK R. MURRAY A WARD--Cash award and inscription of name on a
permanently displayed plaque to the student achieving the highest grade in the
Creditors' Rights Course. The award is sponsored by the West Texas
Bankruptcy Bar Association in memory of the former United States
Bankruptcy Judge seated in the Lubbock Division.
PROFESSOR DEAN PA WLOWIC AWARD--Award established by former
students of Professor Pawlowic to recognize his contribution to students ofthe
Texas Tech School of Law. The superb legal teaching of Professor Pawlowic
continues a tradition of excellence and discipline in both the study and the
practice of commercial law. Professor Pawlowic performs his duties
selflessly and with humility and has very quietly become a role model for
countless law students.
GARDERE WYNNE SEWELL SCHOLARSHIP--Scholarship from the
Dallas law firm to the student attaining the highest scholastic average in the
first year class.

American civil rights leader given to a graduating student who has worked to
realize Rev. King's dream in preparing for law practice. Presented by the
Texas Tech School of Law Foundation.
JUDGE KEN G. SPENCER A WARD--Cash award given to the student
whose propensity to survive in law school by dogged persistence or agility to

adapt to adversity, ability or disability, or sheer force of personality or
charisma, appeals to the admiration ofthe faculty, presented by the late Judge
Ken G. Spencer of Crane, in memory of Bertha and George Whipple.
THE LINDA J. KAMP SERVICE A WARD--Cash award and plaque given
to a graduating law student whose service to the law school best represents the
dedication, service and spirit of Linda Kamp. The award is named in honor
and loving memory of Linda Kamp, who served the law school community for
21 years and was Registrar of the Law School from 1991 to 2002. The award
was established and is funded by the Class of 2002.

FELLOWSHIP--Endowment established by Wayne A. Reaud ('74) of
Beaumont, and matched by the University, to honor the memory of his friend,
John F. "Buddy" Maner, long-time Lubbock attorney.
GEORGE H. MAHON FELLOWSHIPS--A scholarship grant endowed by the
Litton Foundation in honor of Mr. Mahon, the distinguished former
Congressman from Lubbock. These fellowships are awarded to worthy
recipients in any class.
JOHN C. AKARD SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship funded by contributions
of the bench and bar to recognize Judge Akard's contributions to the field of
bankruptcy law.

ALVIN R. ALLISON SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship endowed by Levelland
attorney, the late Alvin R. Allison, who is affectionately known as "the father
of the Texas Tech Law School."
DURWOOD H. BRADLEY SCHOLARSHIPS--Scholarships endowed by
Mrs. Durwood Bradley and friends and relatives in memory of Mr. Bradley,
a prominent Lubbock attorney for many years. The scholarships are awarded
to deserving students.
KENNETH H. BURNS A WARD--Scholarship endowment established by
members of the Victor H. Lindsey Senate of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity
to honor their outstanding Houston alumnus, awarded to students who are
members of the national organization, in good academic standing, and
actively involved in the local Senate. Mr. Burns has also been a generous
contributor to this Fund.
R. GUY CARTER SCHOLARSHIPS--Donated by the late R. Guy and Phyllis
G. Carter. This generous donation, which was matched by the University,
provides scholarships to students. Mr. Carter, the first President of the Texas
Trial Lawyers' Association, supported Texas Tech Schoo I of Law with his
time, energy and gifts.
ROBERT GUY CARTER SCHOLARSHIP--Endowed by partners of the
Dallas law firm of Carter, Jones, Magee, Rudberg & Mayes, in honor of
Robert Guy Carter who founded the firm and who has been a longtime
supporter of Texas Tech University and the Law School. These scholarships
are awarded to worthy students who are in need of financial assistance.
WILLIAM C. CLARK SCHOLARSHIPS--Endowed by Mrs. lC. Clark and
David G. Clark in memory of their son and brother, a Lubbock attorney and
a member of the Texas Tech Class of 1942. These scholarships are awarded
to second- or third-year students.
COLEMAN-HALL PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS--Endowed by
Thomas G. Hall ('81) of Fort Worth. The scholarships are named to honor
the integrity and ideals of James F. Coleman, Jr., partner in the Dallas firm of
Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal. The scholarships are awarded
to two Austin College graduates nominated by the President of Austin
College.

DAX S. COWART SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship fund created to assist
students who have overcome serious social, economic, educational or physical
handicap in attaining a legal education.
CRENSHA W MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship in memory of
Mr. & Mrs. Charles C. Crenshaw, Sr. Mr. Crenshaw was a partner in the
Lubbock firm of Crenshaw, Dupree & Milam from 1926 until his death in
1964. The fund is endowed by members of the Crenshaw family and
scholarship awards are based on financial need and academic achievement.
FACULTY OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship endowment
established by the faculty of the Texas Tech School of Law. The scholarship
is awarded to a currently enrolled student.
FIRST GRADUATING CLASS SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship endowed
through contributions by members of the first Texas Tech graduating law
class of 1969-70.
TOM AND LISA HALL SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship endowment
established by Tom (' 81) and Lisa Hall, who desire to make it possible for
students to nurture a love for individual liberties and pursue justice through
the litigation process.
DR. ARTHUR G. HANSEN SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship endowment
established from proceeds of a settlement of a lawsuit involving Dr. Hansen,
former Chancellor of Texas A&M University. Hansen's attorney, W. Stephen
Rodgers ('79) of Caperton, Rodgers & Miller, Bryan, Texas, placed a wager
with Hansen that Rodgers' fee, upon favorable verdict, would be used to
endow a scholarship at the Texas Tech Law School. The scholarship is
awarded to a second- or third-year student.
RICHARD W. HEMINGWAY PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP--A
scholarship endowed by friends and students offormer Professor and Interim
Dean Hemingway.
JUNELL FAMILY PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS--The scholarships
are endowed by the family of the late Frank Junell, civic leader and longtime
supporter of higher education in Texas, State Representative Robert Junell
('77) and Dan Junell ('85). The scholarships are awarded to graduates of

Angelo State University nominated by the President of Angelo State
University.
JOHN E. KRAHMER ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP--Funded by the Texas
Association of Bank Counsel, Texas law firms and individual attorneys, the
scholarship is awarded to a deserving law student.
BRIAN LONCAR PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP--An endowed
scholarship established by Brian Loncar (' 87) to support legal education at
Texas Tech to be awarded to a graduate of DePauw, St. Mary's, Baylor or
Texas Tech.
OWEN W. McWHORTER ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP--Created to honor
Owen W. McWhorter by the Lubbock law firm of McWhorter, Cobb &
Johnson, the scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving second- or thirdyear student.
OWEN McWHORTER TUITION SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship
endowment established by the late Mr. Ray Diekemper & Mrs. Lou
Diekemper, to honor Lubbock attorney Owen W. McWhorter. The recipients
are encouraged to adhere to the high ethical standards set by Mr. McWhorter.
JOE H. NAGY SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship endowed by his wife and
children in honor of Lubbock attorney Joe H. Nagy, former President of the
State Bar of Texas.
G. HOBERT AND AILEEN HACKNEY NELSON SCHOLARSHIP FUNDA scholarship grant endowed by the late Mr. & Mrs. Nelson and their
children. The scholarships are awarded annually to second- or third-year
students.
PHELAN STUDENT PUBLIC SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS--Endowed by
Judge Robert Bean Professor Marilyn E. Phelan and her husband, Harold, an
attorney in Levelland. The scholarships are awarded to deserving second- or
third-year students interested in public service.

established in honor of trial attorney Johnny Splawn who practiced law in
Lubbock from 1952 until his death in 1988. The fund is endowed by
Splawn's law partner, John Simpson ('74) and his wife, Carolyn Simpson.
CURTF.STEIB,JR.MEMORIALSCHOLARSHIP--Ascholarshipawarded
annually to a student in financial need in memory of Curt Steib, Jr., a member
of the Class of 1977. The grant is endowed by his family, classmates, and
friends.
TEXAS TECH LAW SCHOOL FOUNDATION TRUSTEE
SCHOLARSHIP-A scholarship awarded to an editor ofthe Texas Tech Law
Review. An endowed scholarship established by the Houston law firm of
Brown McCarroll, L.L.P. law firm recognition of the high ideals of Judge and
Mrs. Ward.
W.D. WILSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP--A scholarship awarded
annually by the children of the late Lubbock attorney, W.D. Wilson, and
presented through the Ex-Students' Association.

aid a deserving law student from EI Paso.

ALVIN R. AND ALETHA FAYE ALLISON LOAN FUND--Fund to provide
short-term loans to law students in need of financial assistance, endowed by
the late Alvin R. Allison and Mrs. Allison of Fort Worth.

JUDGE DAN BLAIR LOAN FUND--Funds available to students for shortterm loans in the name of Judge Blair who served as District Judge for
Lubbock, Hockley, Cochran and Crosby counties, 1936-51.
JOSIE BUBANY MEMORIAL LOAN FUND--Established by friends, family
and students to honor the memory ofthe late Josie Bubany, wife of Professor
Charles P. Bubany.
HUNT, RASCHKE, ROBISON & WEINSTEIN LOAN FUND--Fund
established by the Student Bar Association in honor of the winning team and
coach of the 1979 National Moot Court Competition.
JUDGE MARVIN JONES LOAN FUND--Funds for short-term loans to law
students made available by the late Judge Jones, a leader in the establishment
of Texas Tech, a former Congressman from West Texas, and former Sr. Judge
of the U.S. Court of Claims.
JUDGE E.E. JORDAN LOAN FUND--Fund for law students in
unanticipated, short-term financial difficulties, provided by Judge Jordan,
retired from the 47th District Court in Amarillo.
VICTOR H. LINDSEY MEMORIAL FUND--Fund for loans and other
financial assistance to law students in need, created by the Lubbock County
Bar Association and friends of the late Judge Victor H. Lindsey of the 72nd
District Court, at the suggestion of his widow, Mrs. Lindsey.
DREW SIMPSON MEMORIAL FUND--Fund to aid students in financial
difficulty, established by the family, colleagues, and friends of Drew Simpson
('74) on his death in February, 1972.
TEXAS TECH LAW REVIEW LOAN FUND--Fund established for
members of the Texas Tech Law Review staff.
E. WAYNE THODE MEMORIAL LOAN FUND--Fund established by
students, colleagues, and friends of E. Wayne Thode, a Visiting Professor
during Fall, 1979 from the University of Utah, for his contribution to and
interest in quality legal education.
