Basis of Presentation
The financialstatementshave beenpreparedin all materialrespectsin accordance

accounting principlesoutlined in the Manualfor UniformReporting-Stateof Michigan
Collegesand Universities,as revised, and the American lnstitute of CertifiedPublic
Accountants'guide, Audits of Colleges and Universities,and by the Governmental
AccountingStandardsBoard. The combinedstatementsrepresentthe aggregationof
individualfunds as describedin the 'Fund Classifications"
sectionbelow. All interfund
accountshavebeeneliminatedin the combinedfinancialstatements.
Reporting Entity
MichiganTechnologicalUniversity(the "University')
is an institutionof highereducation
and is consideredto be a componentunitof the Stateof Michiganbecauseits Boardof
Control is appointedby the Governorof the State of Michigan. Accordingly,the
Universityis includedin the State'sfinancialstatementsas a discretecomponentunit.
Transactions
with the Stateof Michiganrelateprimarilyto appropriations
for operations,
grants from various state agenciesand paymentsto State retirementprogramsfor
Universityemployees.

Accrual Accounting
The accompanyingfinancialstatementshave been preparedon the accrual basis,

MPSERSis a non-contributory
defined benefit retirementplan throughthe Michigan

costs of the
