The financial statementsreport informationabout the Universityas a whole using

supportingorganization,
the MichiganTech Fund ('MTF")is an independent
nonprofit
corporationformed for the exclusivebenefit of the University. The MTF is not a
componentunit of the University.Therefore,the results of its operationsare not

FINANCAL HIGHLIGIITS
. Duringfiscalyear 2002,the cashbalanceincreasedby $0.4 million,largelydueto a
tuitionincreaseand controlledspending. In the previousfiscal year, our cash
balancewas utilizedto retire$11.3millionof long-termdebt. This debt retirement
resultedin the Universityhavingthe lowest per-studentdebt within the State of
publicuniversities.
