‘Drought and Food Shortages threaten the People of Northern Burkina Faso.’
Humanitarian organisations express great concern for the people of Burkina Faso, a country in the
Sahel region of West Africa. Most farmers in this country are subsistence farmers and the majority of
households in the north are pastoralists. These people regularly face food shortages; usually at the end
of the dry season in May or June. This year, shortages are so severe that families are competing with
their animals for food from the wild, such as from thorny bushes.
