UVIS TEAM MEETING NOTES

June 18-20, 2012—Braunschweig

UVIS and Cassini are still operating well. Cassini USO has failed, CAPS is off. UVIS has now operated for more than 100,000 hours! UVIS is in a slow decline, but no problems.

Flat-fielding continues to be a problem due to mislocation of photons. The team continues to investigate this. We are asking for continuing observations of Spica, even if that may violate some project rules. UVIS has taken data from its first “tracking’ star occultation, with effective resolution of up to about 1 m . Self-gravity wakes are resolved, but individual particles are not seen in the A ring. We are still getting SYSCAN’s. The

UVIS User’s Guide has been accepted by PDS and is now online. Future revisions are possible: if we create a new document, then PDS will replace it online. Tim Cassidy’s analysis of Herschel water observations give a water vapor source rate of 200-250 kg/sec from Enceladus, consistent with UVIS star and solar occultation results. Shemansky will refine the UVIS Enceladus solar occultation analysis using new high-resolution crosssection measurements. We had presentations from two new participating scientists,

Adriani and Lavvas. A splinter meeting on Enceladus included presentations by Matson and others with attendees from Technische Universitaet Braunschweig and University

Potsdam.
