This allows them to experience the practical application of the skills and knowledge they acquire throughout the delivery of the course. This work is submitted by each candidate as a portfolio of evidence which is then assessed by teachers in their own school. In order to mark the Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise coursework, teachers should first gain accreditation. This can be done by completing the training and accreditation task in this training handbook. We strongly recommend that you read the accompanying IGCSE Enterprise Coursework Training Handbook (Part 1): Guidance before tackling the accreditation tasks in this training handbook. All teachers, who are involved in the internal assessment of the coursework within the school should become familiar with the range of procedures they need to follow and the documentary evidence required to support the assessment and moderation processes. The IGCSE Enterprise Coursework Training Handbook (Part 1): Guidance booklet details these processes and identifies the necessary documentation that Centres are required to submit alongside the assessed coursework samples. Key information regarding the administration of coursework, including crucial deadlines, can be found in the Cambridge Administrative Guide, the Cambridge Handbook for Centres and the syllabus document for the year in which the examination is to be sat. These publications should be treated as the authority on any changes to these requirements. Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 3 Section 1: How to use this handbook 4 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 2: How to get accreditation Section 2: How to get accreditation Section 3 of this handbook contains a series of marked examples of Enterprise coursework and is designed to help confirm your understanding of the assessment process, so do please read this section before attempting the accreditation task. The unmarked examples contained in Section 4 form the accreditation task itself. On completion of the task you should copy and fill in the accreditation forms included on pages 153–160 giving your identification details and signing the declaration that the work you are submitting is your own. You should record the marks you have given the accreditation samples, and provide comments justifying your decisions as indicated on the form. The completed forms should then be sent off to the address stated on them. Please keep a copy of all the completed forms for your records. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for the Moderator to assess the work that has been submitted and for Cambridge to inform you of the outcome. You will be informed of the Moderator’s decision regarding the outcome by post. This will take the form of a certificate when accreditation is awarded. In cases where accreditation can not be awarded, a feedback report will be provided, giving guidance on how assessment skills can be improved ahead of a resubmission of the task. If accreditation is not awarded, this does not mean that a teacher cannot continue to teach the course but it is advisable that they are not involved in the judgement/moderation of other teachers’ marking. You may resubmit work for accreditation as many times as you wish. There is, however, a charge each time for doing so. Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 5 Section 2: How to get accreditation 6 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Section 3: Marked coursework samples In order to carry out this coursework training, you should have a copy of the current year’s Cambridge IGCSE 0454 Enterprise syllabus available. You will need to refer to the assessment criteria in the syllabus document in order to match the candidate’s evidence against the level descriptors for each of the different assessment criteria. Syllabuses are available on the Cambridge website www.cie.org.uk The following three examples of scripts have been assessed using the assessment criteria set out in the syllabus document and annotated at the point at which marks have been awarded throughout. Some assessment criteria may have more than one annotation if there are several good examples of how the evidence meets a particular criterion; some assessment criteria may have no annotation, if the candidate has not provided any evidence to meet that particular criterion. For each marked script: 1. Read through the evidence produced by the candidate, including any appendices. 2. Use a copy of the assessment criteria from the syllabus document, the completed copy of the Individual Candidate Record Card and the annotations to familiarise yourself with the assessment decisions made for each candidate. The syllabus and the Coursework Training Handbook (Part 1): Guidance booklet provide detailed information relating to the assessment criteria for the IGCSE Enterprise coursework component. The following section aims to provide additional guidance on the quality of work expected for each task. This should help to establish the standard when you come to apply the mark scheme in the accreditation task. 3.1 Task 1 – Identifying a suitable project or activity For this task, candidates must present evidence to show that they have carefully considered a range of options before deciding on their final choice of project. Candidates are expected to look at issues such as the feasibility of different options and the relative demand and cost associated with each option. They should also consider which skills are important for entrepreneurs to have, and try to evaluate the extent to which they believe they possess these skills. Candidates should submit a formal written report about the process and outcome of choosing a suitable project or activity. The report itself, which should consist of approximately 1 000 words, should include appropriate titles and subheadings, and should cover: 1. a summary of the project or activity chosen 2. the skills that the candidate believes are important for entrepreneurs to possess, and an evaluation of the extent to which the candidate believes that they possess these skills 3. evidence of the ways in which a problem or need was identified and researched by the candidate, including the sources used (questionnaire, Internet, brainstorming, etc.) and presentation of the outcomes of research undertaken 4. an outline of the ways in which the problem or need could be solved or satisfied in an enterprising way (evidence could include PESTEL (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, Legal) analysis) 5. an explanation of the reasons for the candidate’s final choice of project or activity, and the reasons why the other ideas were rejected Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 7 Section 3: Marked coursework samples It is important that candidates do present this information in a report format to access all three mark bands. To access mark band 3, one of the descriptors clearly states that candidates must use ‘A variety of communication methods employed, fully suitable for the audience.’ A possible format that candidates could use is provided in the Teachers Guide. 3.1.1 Assessment Criteria for Task 1 Marks are awarded against each assessment criterion using the statements within the bands. A mark of zero should be awarded for non-creditworthy responses. AO Assessment guidelines for Task 1 AO3 • Ability to analyse information and evaluate courses of action before making decisions. AO2 • Good ability to apply the skills of enterprise to the identification of a suitable project or activity. • A variety of communication methods employed, fully suitable for the audience. AO1 • Reasonable knowledge of enterprise concepts and terminology. AO3 • Some attempt to analyse information before making decisions. AO2 • Reasonable ability to apply the skills of enterprise to the identification of a suitable project or activity. • A variety of communication methods employed, but not completely suitable for the audience. AO1 • Some knowledge of enterprise concepts and terminology. AO3 • Very little, if any, successful attempt to analyse or evaluate information before making decisions. AO2 • Limited ability to apply the skills of enterprise to the identification of a suitable project or activity. • No variety in the methods of communication employed, or the communication was not suitable for the intended audience. • Limited knowledge of enterprise concepts and terminology. AO1 Marks 8–10 5–7 1–4 3.1.2 Formal written report The work must be presented in a recognised report format. Otherwise it cannot access the highest mark band as candidates will not be able to demonstrate that it is fully suitable for the audience. To demonstrate a variety of communication methods, candidates should be encouraged to include tables, a sample questionnaire and the results of any market research undertaken in a graphical format. Candidates should be encouraged, wherever possible, to use the findings of their research to explain and support all the decisions that they make. This should help candidates as they make their final choice of project. It will also help them demonstrate an ability to analyse information and evaluate courses of action before making decisions. Work judged to be at mark band 1 level is likely to be incomplete or candidates might only have provided simple statements or descriptions relating to the task. Better candidates will have made some attempt to explain the information that they have gathered to support the decisions they have made. They will also 8 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples have tried to identify and evaluate their entrepreneurial skills. They will also have provided some evidence to show that that they have attempted both parts of the tasks. For candidates to access the highest mark band, they will have presented good evidence for both parts of the task. The report will include a detailed assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of a range of options before making a decision. There will be a good variety of communication methods used, such as tables and charts, which are entirely suitable for the intended audience. 3.1.3 Example of Task 1 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 9 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 10 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 11 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 12 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 13 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 14 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 15 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 16 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 17 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 18 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 19 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 20 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 21 Section 3: Marked coursework samples Comment Knowledge of enterprise concepts and terminology (the table of entrepreneurial skills in section 2.2 of this first example) is clear from the first page (page 9). The candidate has also presented the work in a suitable report format, using sub headings and numbering appropriately. There is a variety of communication methods employed including the table of enterprise skills, and the results from the candidate’s market research which are presented in a graphical format. The candidate has also presented their final choices as a business plan (page 18). This was not necessary to meet the assessment criteria for task 1. The additional material outlined the choices made, but did not add any additional depth to the reasoning behind the candidates decisions which was required to access the highest mark band. There is clear evidence as well that the candidate has tried to explain the choices they have made. However, in many instances, such as section 3.1 (page 10) these simply describe what the candidate did rather than analyse or explain how or why this might affect the decisions made. The results of the market research are included, but as the teacher’s comments highlight, the candidate did not explain the results (page 12–13). This would have helped to support the reasons as to why they rejected the second choice, which is required to demonstrate a good ability to apply the skills of enterprise to the identification of a suitable project or activity. However, the candidate has only explained how some of the decisions made were reached. The candidate has also attempted to assess their entrepreneurial skills and come to a final, but not fully supported, decision. This work is therefore placed in band 2, with a mark of 6. 3.2 Task 2 – Planning the project or activity For this task, candidates must present evidence to show that they have carried out planning to try and ensure the success of their chosen project or activity. There should be evidence that they have considered the activities and tasks to be undertaken, and either the need for finance or the need to tell the potential market about the project or activity. As stated in the syllabus, candidates are required to submit two pieces of evidence for this task: 1. An action plan covering the preparation for and implementation of the project, containing: – the activities that are to be undertaken, and by whom – timings of the activities – proposed methods of monitoring progress with the plan. 2. One of either financial planning or planning marketing communications. If candidates do not provide evidence for both tasks, they are unlikely to access mark band 3 (11-14 marks) and above. This is because they will be unable to satisfy the relevant descriptors to meet the assessment criteria for these higher mark bands. In the Coursework Training Handbook (Part 1): Guidance booklet, candidates are encouraged to produce a business plan. Please note candidates are not required to produce a business plan as evidence of the task. Even without a business plan, they can still access all five mark bands for this task. 22 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples AO Assessment guidelines for Task 2 Marks AO3 • Very good ability to analyse information and evaluate courses of action before making decisions. 19–23 AO2 • Excellent application of the skills of enterprise to the planning of a project or activity. • Communication is very suitable for the audience or purpose. AO1 • Good knowledge of enterprise concepts and terminology. AO3 • Good ability to analyse information and evaluate courses of action before making decisions. AO2 • Good application of the skills of enterprise to the planning of a project or activity. • Communication is very suitable for the audience or purpose. AO1 • Reasonable knowledge of enterprise concepts and terminology. AO3 • Reasonable attempt to analyse information before making decisions. AO2 • Reasonable ability to apply the skills of enterprise to the planning of a project or activity. • Communication is reasonably suitable for the audience or purpose. AO1 • Reasonable knowledge of enterprise concepts and terminology. AO3 • Limited attempt to analyse or evaluate information before making decisions. AO2 • Some ability to apply the skills of enterprise to the planning of a project or activity. • Communication is of limited suitability for the audience or purpose. AO1 • Some knowledge of enterprise concepts and terminology. AO3 • Very little, if any, attempt to analyse or evaluate information before making decisions. AO2 • Limited ability to apply the skills of enterprise to the planning of a project or activity. • Communication is generally not suitable for the audience or purpose. • Limited knowledge of enterprise concepts and terminology. AO1 15–18 11–14 5–10 1–4 3.2.1 Action Plan For this part of the task, it is important that candidates include the methods they will use to monitor their plan. The more detailed the Action Plan, the greater the opportunities for candidates to demonstrate the necessary skills of application and analysis to allow access to all mark bands. This is particularly important if the candidate decides to present evidence of ‘Implementing their plan’ for Task 3 or ‘Evaluation of the success of the planning and implementation of the project’ as part of Task 4. For example, a basic or incomplete Action Plan is only likely to be able to access mark band 1. A candidate who has clearly identified the main tasks, and stated when and who will undertake each task and how they will be monitored could access at least mark band 3 (assuming all other required elements of the task are present). To access the highest mark bands, the assessor would expect candidates to produce a detailed Action Plan. This will include appropriate timings and details of proposed methods of monitoring. Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 23 Section 3: Marked coursework samples It is important to note that candidates are only required to present evidence for one of the following tasks. If candidates submit both, the assessor should assess all the evidence. The work for the better task would contribute to their overall mark. 3.2.2 Financial planning The Coursework Training Handbook (Part 1): Guidance booklet outlines the requirements for this option. In summary, candidates need to provide three pieces of evidence: 1. A simple Income and Expenditure budget for the project or activity, showing the candidate’s own financial estimates 2. A record of a presentation by the candidate, to a teacher or business person outlining their proposals for financing the activity or project 3. Written evidence of the sources of finance the candidate considered. For part 2, it is important to remind candidates that this cannot be a group presentation. Each candidate will need to make a suitable financial presentation as an individual. The Coursework Training Handbook (Part 1): Guidance booklet also provides an example of an Income and Expenditure budget, and a template of a witness statement that candidates (and assessors) could use. The Witness Statement must be signed by either the teacher or business person to whom the presentation was made. The Witness Statement should include comments which outline the suitability of the presentation for the intended audience. Simple comments such as ‘loan given’, or ‘well presented’ are not appropriate as they do not provide sufficient detail as to the level of enterprise skills demonstrated. Likewise, evidence of sources considered should be included as part of the presentation, for example, as a slide or hand out. However if the candidate relies on a Witness Statement comment e.g. ‘explained options’ this cannot be accepted as evidence. The criteria clearly state that written evidence must be provided. Failure to include all elements of this part of the task will restrict the candidates’ ability to access the higher mark bands. 3.2.3 Planning marketing communications Choosing this option requires candidates to submit evidence of the following: • Two examples of marketing communications, using different media, suitable for telling potential customers about the project or activity. Evidence could include, for example, a poster, a leaflet, a website plan or sponsorship materials • A Witness Statement of a presentation by the individual candidate, to a teacher or business person, including the use of visual materials. The presentation should cover the candidate’s proposed methods of marketing communications, together with the reasons for the candidate’s choices of communications • Written evidence of the candidate’s decision as to which one of their examples of marketing communications the candidate believes should be used, together with an explanation of why they believe that this method of marketing communications will be successful. The candidate should refer to reaching the potential market, attracting and retaining customers. It is important that the marketing communications selected would be appropriate for their activity or project. Candidates must also include visual materials as part of their presentation to a teacher or business person. 24 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples For the commentary, candidates should focus on why they think the communication could work. For Task 2, candidates are not required to comment on whether the marketing communication method(s) chosen did or did not work. This information would form part of the candidate’s evaluation for Task 4. If a candidate does include an evaluation of the actual success of their marketing, these comments should be considered as evidence to support Task 4, if appropriate. Again, the failure to include all elements of this part of the task will restrict the candidate’s ability to access the higher mark bands. For example work credited at mark bands 1 or 2 is likely to be incomplete. There might be only one example of marketing communication (which may or may not be appropriate), no evidence of a presentation or there is little or no relevant supporting commentary to support their final choice. Better candidates are likely to have included evidence for all parts of this task. If candidates have identified two suitable methods of marketing communication, provided evidence of a suitable presentation, made some attempt to explain why they have selected these methods and included some justification for their final choice the work is likely to be at mark band 3 or above. The candidate might want to explain how the method might attract customers or the relative costs of each method in relation to their expected budget. When deciding which mark band to select, the assessor should consider the level of detail presented as well as the quality of the explanations and judgement made. To access the highest Mark Band, candidates will need to provide a detailed explanation and a thorough justification of the decisions made. Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 25 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 3.2.4 Example of Task 2 26 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 27 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 28 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 29 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 30 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 31 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 32 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 33 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 34 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 35 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 36 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 37 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 38 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 39 Section 3: Marked coursework samples Comment The candidate has presented evidence for the Action Plan as well as evidence for both Financial Planning and Marketing Communication. In this case, all the material will be reviewed by the Assessor. The candidate will be awarded the higher of the two marks for the financial planning and marketing communication option to contribute to their final mark. The Action Plan (page 26) identifies eight tasks that the candidates believes are necessary to complete the project. However as the Assessor has indicated there is little or no attempt to analyse these tasks. The candidate could have enhanced their Action Plan by breaking down these headings into the component stages of each task and explaining the interim timings rather than just the completion dates. Likewise, for the monitoring, it would be helpful if the candidate had expanded on what they meant by ‘presentation data’ and ‘reports’. As presented, this Action Plan can only be considered at mark band 1 or 2 standards. For the second part of the task, the candidate seems to have selected to produce Marketing Communication. However the candidate has only included one form of media – a leaflet. The leaflet contains few details about the project, other than what it sells and contact details for the business. The leaflet could have been enhanced by adding more details about what is being sold or why customers should think about buying the goods from this enterprise. There is some supporting evidence to justify their final choice of a leaflet (page 27). The candidate’s response could have been enhanced by explaining why they believe there is a ‘high possibility that it will also work for my business.’ There is also little explanation as to why either of their chosen methods is suitable for the candidate’s project. The candidate has listed points, such as ‘expensive’ which can only be considered knowledge (AO1). To access the higher mark bands, the candidate could have tried to develop the points identified to show why these points are factors that their enterprise would need to consider. This would have enabled them to access AO2 (application) and AO3 (analysis). In addition, the candidate could have expanded their evaluation to explain why they believe the poster was not a suitable option. The candidate has not included a witness statement as evidence of the required presentation to support the choices made. The level of detail in this part of the task, as presented, can only be assessed as mark band one /two standard. However, as part of Task 3, the candidate also presented evidence of Financial Planning – by including a simple Income and Expenditure budget, sources and a Witness Statement to support their presentation. The slides (pages 30–39) demonstrate that the communication was reasonably suitable for the audience. This with the supporting comments in the Witness Statement indicates that the candidate has shown a reasonable ability to apply the skills of enterprise. This additional evidence, along with the Action Plan, is enough to award mark band 3. However the analysis shown across the various Task 2 activities is limited so it is not possible to award a mark at the higher end of the mark band. Therefore the candidate is awarded mark band 3 –12 marks 40 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples 3.3 Task 3 – Implementing the plan For this task, the candidate must present two pieces of evidence. It is important to note that the activity or project is expected to be real and should therefore have actually been run for the successful completion of Task 3. Candidates must carry out their project or activity and must submit: 1. a written record of carrying out the action plan produced in Task 2, including: • which tasks were carried out • The results of monitoring progress with tasks using the criteria identified in the Action Plan. 2. Evidence of preparing to negotiate at a meeting with another person or group of people, regarding an aspect of planning the project or activity, or implementing the plans. The candidate must also provide a written description of the situation in which they negotiated, and the outcome of the negotiation. Candidates working on their own should describe how the plans for the project or activity were implemented. Candidates working in a group should describe how they carried out their own role. Each candidate will have to provide the necessary evidence of their own role in the planning and negotiation situation. If the enterprise project is a group activity, it is important to ensure that each individual member has the opportunity to demonstrate how they helped implement the Action Plan or planned their own negotiation activity. This can be a difficult task to assess. This is because the teacher will have to assess how well the individual candidate has carried out the implementation and monitoring of their Action Plan and planned their negotiation activity. The candidate will have to provide appropriate written evidence to support this Task. The Coursework Training Handbook (Part 1): Guidance booklet outlines the types of possible evidence that candidates could include. 3.3.1 Assessment of criteria for Task 3 AO Assessment guidelines for Task 3 AO2 • Good ability to apply the skills of enterprise when implementing a plan. • Good ability to negotiate with others. • Reasonable ability to apply the skills of enterprise when implementing a plan. • Reasonable ability to negotiate with others. • Limited ability to apply the skills of enterprise when implementing a plan. • Limited ability to negotiate with others. AO2 AO2 Marks 6–7 3–5 1–2 3.3.2 Implementing the Action Plan This activity will require candidates to present evidence about how well they have implemented their Action Plan. Candidates will be assessed on their ability to apply the skills of enterprise. Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 41 Section 3: Marked coursework samples To complete this task, candidates must show that they have a record of activities undertaken, monitored progress, identified problems and shown how these were resolved to support their final evaluation of the success of the project and its implementation. In order to demonstrate this, the Coursework Training Handbook (Part 1): Guidance booklet encourages candidates to keep an individual log. It also suggests other possible sources of evidence that could be used including a flow chart, diary and witness or participant statements. This can greatly assist candidates as the more information they have the easier it will be to complete Task 3 (and Task 4). In addition, it could provide the detailed evidence required to access the higher mark bands. As highlighted in the guidance, the important point to remember is that: ‘Whatever format is selected, it must include all the actions or procedures carried out such as the planning, the project or activity schedule and any revisions that were made.’ Candidates must include information on the following in their report: • their personal contributions • how any difficulties or disruptions were handled • how health, safety and security were implemented and sustained • whether or not the original plan was kept to • the results of monitoring of progress Candidates should refer back to the Action Plan completed in Task 2 as they will need to present the results of monitoring their progress against their identified criteria. Candidates will therefore have needed to identify methods of monitoring in Task 2 to successfully complete this part of Task 3. This will provide them with a set of measures against which to judge the success of the project. A candidate whose evidence is brief or incomplete is likely to be awarded mark band 1. A common omission is likely to be evidence of monitoring using the criteria identified in their Action Plan. In mark band 1, the candidates are likely to have written simple descriptions of tasks undertaken. Better candidates will provide more detailed descriptions of the tasks that they performed, to show that they have used some of the skills of enterprise whilst implementing their plan. The skills do not need to be listed but the description of work carried out will show that the candidate has applied their knowledge when implementing their plan. To access level 3, the evidence presented will be detailed, clearly showing how the candidate implemented and monitored their Action Plan. 3.3.3 Planning a negotiation This task is divided into two parts. Firstly, candidates must present evidence of preparing to negotiate at a meeting with another person or group, regarding an aspect of planning the project or activity, or implementing the plans. This is not the same information that candidates might have presented for the Financial Planning option in Task 2. For this task, the candidate must present evidence of preparing to negotiate. In Task 2, the evidence requirements focus on the actual presentation to a business person. The candidate must also provide a written description of the situation in which they negotiated, and the outcome of the negotiation. However if the candidate relies on a Witness Statement comment e.g. ‘explained options’ this cannot be accepted as evidence. The criteria clearly states that written evidence must be provided. 42 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples The Coursework Training Handbook (Part 1): Guidance booklet provides examples of possible negotiation opportunities, as well as a template that candidates could use to provide evidence of planning. Witness Statements could also be used as supporting evidence of planning to negotiate. Candidates should produce a written explanation which includes sufficient detail to be able for the teacher (and moderators) to be able to assess their skills in negotiating with others. Topic 5 of the syllabus provides further information about Planning for Negotiation. Where the evidence presented is incomplete or brief it is likely to be awarded a mark in mark band 1. Better candidates will have provided evidence that they are able to negotiate with others. To access mark band 3, the evidence presented will be detailed to clearly show how the candidate planned their negotiation (as well as providing detailed evidence for implementing their Action Plan.) Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 43 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 3.3.4 Example of Task 3 44 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 45 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 46 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 47 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 48 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 49 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 50 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 51 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 52 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 53 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 54 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Comment The candidate has used the Cambridge template to produce a Plan for Negotiation. This provides details about why the candidate needs to carry out the negotiation, the evidence they intend to use and the outcome of the negotiation. On page 50 of their slides, they have also included details of the benefits and weaknesses of their proposal, as well as details of the information they intend to use during the presentation. This shows the candidate has considered relevant issues as part of their preparation, in accordance with the guidance outlined in Topic 5 of the syllabus. The work could have been enhanced by including more detailed information such as to how the candidate planned to overcome the potential weaknesses in their proposal, or why they needed this amount of money. The candidate has also supported this evidence with a Witness Statement signed by the teacher (page 29).The Witness Statement states that the candidate was ‘able to respond to questions’ and tried to ‘show problem solving skills but limited’. All this shows that the candidate has clearly shown a reasonable ability to apply the skills of enterprise when planning their negotiation, but there is insufficient evidence to support a mark in band 3, which requires good application of skills. The Action Plan is a copy of the material used for Task 2. The candidate has also included a brief outline of the tasks they carried out. However, the focus of the explanations centre on how ‘simple’ or ‘difficult’ the tasks were rather than on what they did to carry out their role. Likewise, the monitoring is limited as there is no indication of how success (or otherwise) was measured. As presented this would merit a mark band 1. However, the Plan for Negotiation does include sufficient evidence to place the work in mark band 2. The candidate is therefore awarded mark band 2 – 4 marks. 3.4 Task 4 – Evaluating the project or activity For this task, candidates must assess the success of how the project or activity was implemented and the outcome, not their own performance. It does not matter whether the project was a success or failure, or whether they made a profit or a loss. Candidates are being assessed on their ability to analyse and evaluate using evidence gathered through the enterprise activity. This is an important distinction to be made to candidates as it is important that they are as honest and critical as necessary regarding their project or activity. For candidates working as a part of a group, it is likely that individual candidates will present different views on the success of the project. This is not an issue as each candidate’s evidence should be assessed individually against the stated assessment criteria. Candidates must produce a written report of approximately 1000 words, as explained on page 27 of the syllabus: The report should include appropriate titles and sub-headings and should cover two of the following: 1. Evaluation of the financial success of the project or activity, with clear and reasoned recommendations for improvement 2. An evaluation of the success of the marketing communication(s) used, with clear and reasoned recommendations for improvement 3. An evaluation of the success of the internal communications used during the planning and implementation of the project or activity, with clear and reasoned recommendations for improvement Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 55 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 4. An evaluation of the success of the planning and implementation of the project, with clear and reasoned recommendations for improvement. It is important to note that candidates working alone will not be able to evaluate the use of internal communications. They will therefore be limited in Task 4 to evaluation of two of the remaining three elements; finance, marketing communications and planning and implementation of the project. Candidates only have to include two of the four topic areas in their report. Candidates should be discouraged from writing about all four topic areas. The assessment criteria for this Task focus on AO3 – analysis and evaluation. It is therefore essential that candidates try to explain all the points that they make, using the evidence they have collected to support any conclusions and recommendations that they make. By discussing more than the required number of topics, this can result in the candidate’s report lacking the necessary depth of analysis and evaluation required to access the higher mark bands. A candidate whose evidence is brief or incomplete is likely to be awarded mark band 1 or 2. The candidates are likely to have written simple descriptions of tasks undertaken, but attempted very little analysis of points identified. The candidate will make a decision as to the success of the project and or the way it was implemented. There will be an attempt to provide some evidence to support this view. The work might not be presented as in a formal report format. For band 2, candidates will show some attempt to weigh up either the success or failure of the enterprise with respect to the aspects chosen. There should be some limited attempt to use evidence to justify the decision made but this is likely to be very brief. There may be a recommendation for improvement but this will not be justified with evidence. For mark band 3, candidates will have discussed both required elements, and the work will be presented in a report format. The candidate will attempt to organise some evidence to show both the success and failure of the enterprise with respect to the elements under discussion, however the discussion may be unbalanced. There will be an attempt to use the evidence to draw a conclusion and make some attempt (even if unsuccessful) at justifying recommendations for improvement. For mark band 4, candidates will attempt to explain both the successful and unsuccessful aspects of their enterprise. Evidence will be used to justify the points made. However one or more key points will be missed. A recommendation for improvement will be made with some attempt to explain why this will improve the enterprise. Candidates awarded mark band 5, will have prepared a detailed written report, using a suitable layout. A range of evidence will be organised to make justified recommendations for improvement in both areas discussed. The evidence will be used to show both the positive and negative aspects of the areas under discussion. 3.4.1 Assessment criteria for Task 4 56 AO Assessment guidelines for Task 4 Marks AO3 • Excellent analysis and evaluation, with comprehensive use of evidence to substantiate claims. 17–20 AO3 • Good analysis and evaluation, with reasonable use of evidence to substantiate claims. 13–16 AO3 • Some analysis and evaluation, with reasonable use of evidence to substantiate claims. 9–12 AO3 • Limited analysis and evaluation, with reasonable use of evidence to substantiate claims. 5–8 AO3 • Very limited analysis and evaluation, with reasonable use of evidence to substantiate claims. 1–4 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples 3.4.2 Example of Task 4 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 57 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 58 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise 59 Section 3: Marked coursework samples 60 Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise Section 3: Marked coursework samples Comment The candidate has presented the work in a report format using appropriate titles and sub headings. They have identified a number of valid issues, which focus on both successful and unsuccessful aspects of their enterprise activity. The candidate has tried to develop and support all the points made, with appropriate use of evidence. For example, in Paragraph 3 of the Finance Evaluation: ‘The most successful method, I believe was fundraising because it gave us a preview of how people would relate to us selling food. It taught us we had to use pricing strategies in pricing the products and make our food affordable to the consumers because it was….’ This section shows good analysis as the candidate has tried to explain the significance of their findings, using evidence gathered to support the point being made. The candidate has adopted this detailed approach throughout the Finance and Planning and Implementation section. The candidate has not just stated issues, but has tried to explain the consequences of these actions. In some instances, the analysis could be developed more, such as ‘we chose appropriate methods of finance because we benefited greatly from them’. The candidate could have provided more evidence to explain how the enterprise benefited greatly. The conclusions made are consistent with the findings presented, and there are clear recommendations made, which are mainly supported by the previous analysis. The work could again be enhanced by including a greater range of supporting evidence. The candidate included the actual income and expenditure for the enterprise but made no reference to it in their report. This would have helped to substantiate the judgement made. Overall this is a detailed report, presented in a suitable layout. The analysis and evaluation is clearly supported using evidence gathered, and valid recommendations for both areas have been included. Whilst more use of supporting evidence would have enhanced the work, there is sufficient evidence of analysis and evaluation to place the candidate at the top of mark band 4. Hence the candidate is awarded mark band 4–16 marks. Enter marks and total marks in the appropriate spaces. Complete any other sections of the form required. 4. Ensure that the addition of marks is independently checked. 5. It is essential that the marks of candidates from different teaching groups within each Centre are moderated internally. This means that the marks awarded to all candidates within a Centre must be brought to a common standard by the teacher responsible for co-ordinating the internal assessment (i.e. the internal moderator), and a single valid and reliable set of marks should be produced which reflects the relative attainment of all the candidates in the Coursework component at the Centre. The outcome of internal moderation, in terms of the number of marks added to or subtracted from the initial total, must be clearly written in the box marked ‘Amount of scaling if relevant’. If no scaling is necessary, please indicate by writing a zero in this box. 6. Transfer the marks to the Coursework Assessment Summary Form in accordance with the instructions given on that document. 7. Retain all Individual Candidate Record Cards and Coursework which will be required for external moderation. See also the instructions on the Coursework Assessment Summary Form. Note: These Record Cards are to be used by teachers only for students who have undertaken Coursework as part of their Cambridge IGCSE. Complete the information at the head of the form. 2. List the candidates in an order which will allow ease of transfer of information to a computer-printed Coursework mark sheet MS1 at a later stage (i.e. in candidate index number order, where this is known; see item B.1 below). Show the teaching group or set for each candidate. The initials of the teacher may be used to indicate group or set. 3. Transfer each candidate’s marks from his or her Individual Candidate Record Card to this form as follows: (a) Where there are columns for individual skills or assignments, enter the marks initially awarded (i.e. before internal moderation took place). (b) In the column headed ‘Total Mark’, enter the total mark awarded before internal moderation took place. (c) In the column headed ‘Internally Moderated Mark’, enter the total mark awarded after internal moderation took place. 4. Both the teacher completing the form and the internal moderator (or moderators) should check the form and complete and sign the bottom portion. B. PROCEDURES FOR EXTERNAL MODERATION 1. University of Cambridge International Examinations sends a computer-printed Coursework mark sheet MS1 to each Centre (in late March for the June examination and in early October for the November examination) showing the names and index numbers of each candidate. Transfer the total internally moderated mark for each candidate from the Coursework Assessment Summary Form to the computer-printed Coursework mark sheet MS1. 2. The top copy of the computer-printed Coursework mark sheet MS1 must be despatched in the specially provided envelope to arrive as soon as possible at Cambridge and by the deadlines in the Cambridge Administrative Guide available on our website. 3. Cambridge will select a list of candidates whose work is required for external moderation. As soon as this list is received, send the candidates’ work with the corresponding Individual Candidate Record Cards, this summary form and the second copy of MS1 to Cambridge. Indicate the candidates who are in the sample by means of an asterisk (*) against the candidates’ names overleaf. 4. Cambridge reserves the right to ask for further samples of Coursework. 5. Send, with the sample work, instructions given to candidates and information as to how internal moderation was carried out. WMS 0454/02/CW Appendix 4: Coursework Assessment Summary Form 164 A.
