Department of

Science and Technology Studies

To: all STS Undergraduates,

This document contains important information about what to do if you experience any problems over the exam period. You should also consult the Examination Programme Guide for Candidates available on the UCL website at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/current-students/exams_and_awards/Regulations/candidate_guide.pdf

At the exam hall: You will be asked to identify yourself. Make sure you have your UCL ID (or other approved form of ID) and your candidate identifier card. You will be expected to display both cards on your desk. Your examinations timetable, which is available in Portico, also gives details of your candidate identifier. You will not be permitted to keep your examination timetable on your desk during the examination.

What to do if you are late for an exam:

If you arrive at the exam hall after the exam has started but within the first 30 minutes, you should normally be allowed to sit the exam in the hall. However, you will not be permitted any extra time and will finish at the same time as the other candidates.

If you arrive at the exam hall after the first 30 minutes, you will not be allowed into the hall but will be sent to your parent department. For STS students this means you should report immediately to the STS

Exams Officer (Kate Hickson, room G1, 22 Gordon Square), who will endeavour to arrange for you to sit the exam in the Department. This will only be possible if a room and a supervisor are available and you arrive before the normal end of the exam. A standard period of 30 minutes will be deducted from the total time allowed for that exam, to ensure that any candidate arriving this late will not gain an advantage over those arriving late at the exam hall within the first 30 minutes.

You will be asked to sign a statement that:

- you have not seen the paper;

- you have not spoken to anyone about the paper on the journey to the Department; and

- you understand that the script will only be marked at the discretion of the Board of Examiners if they consider the reason legitimate and not a trivial one which could have been avoided.

If you arrive after the time for the normal end of the exam, you will not be permitted to sit the paper.

What to do in the event of illness:

If you are ill on the day of your exam, contact the STS Exams Officer (Kate Hickson) as soon as possible.

Contact Kate on 020 7679 4371. If you think you may have to miss an exam for any other reason contact the Exams Officer or the Undergraduate Tutor (Joe Cain 020 7679 3041) as soon as possible. If you can’t get in touch with Kate or Joe please contact the Academic Administrator, Jo Pearson, on 020 7679 1328

(Room G2, 22 Gordon Square).

Remember the sooner you let us know about a problem that may affect your exams the more likely we are to be able to help.

You should note that details and evidence of extenuating circumstances which have affected performance in an examination must be submitted within seven days of the date of that examination.

If you have any questions relating to the exam process this session, please do get in touch.

And finally - very best of luck!

Kate
