Finding articles about film and television
The database International Film Archive, more popularly known as FIAF,
allows you to search across a range of academic journals for articles about
film and television. This guide will show you the most efficient way to use it.
1. Go to the databases page on the Library catalogue at
http://webcat.warwick.ac.uk/search~S1/v
2. In the “Search for database name” box enter FIAF and click submit.
3. From the resource page that loads, follow the link to FIAF and log in
with your Warwick username and password.
4. On the database homepage click the Search option.
5. From the search screen select the appropriate box (e.g. Director,
Subject) and enter your search term. It is important to then click on the
Select from… link on the right. This connects you to a list of the names
and subject terms which occur in the database.
6. For example, entering “Crime drama” as a subject search leads you to
a list of options including Crime Dramas UK, Crime on TV UK, Crime in
Films UK. Select as many as are appropriate by clicking in the box(es)
and then click on the “Select” button. This returns you to the search
screen, where you need to click the “Search” button.
7. Many of the results will offer a link to a pdf or full text version. Where
this is not present, you’ll need to search for the journal name on the
Library catalogue to see if the Library has access to this article.
