Warwick is one of Britain's leading research universities, with an acknowledged reputation for excellence in research and teaching, for innovation, and for links to industry and business. Founded in 1965 on a greenfield site on the boundary line of the city of Coventry and the county of Warwickshire, Warwick's rapid rise is due in part to a particular style of entrepreneurial and professional management developed in-house by senior Warwick administrators and the new Internships will provide students with a taster of what a career in University administration would entail. The scheme will: Provide students with an internship opportunity within a diverse, professional setting; Raise awareness of the importance of gaining work experience alongside degree study to provide first-hand experience of the workplace, to enhance employability skills and to inform career choices; Prepare students for work experience by helping them to audit their current employability skills and setting personal objectives for their placements, and in preparing them to interact effectively with employers; Provide students with the experience of a structured interview and selection process; Post placement, help students reflect upon the skills developed and explore the learning they have achieved whilst working; Help students learn to record, reflect and demonstrate this learning clearly to future employers. Each Intern will work on a specific project within an area of the University administration. Each project, whilst being based in one department, will incorporate cross-functional working so as to provide each Intern with a broad sense of the work of the University. Each Intern will be allocated a Mentor from Student Careers & Skills, who will act as a first point of contact for advice and support and will offer feedback, suggestions and face to face meetings. This support will be in addition to a line manager within the department who will oversee the work of the Intern.
