Candidates are expected to apply theory, materials, and research discussed in the coursework, assess applicability, and critique best practices in teaching and learning children in grades K-­‐3. The course can be applied toward CDA Subject Areas 5, 6, and 7 (managing an effective program, maintaining a commitment to professionalism, and observing and recording children’s behavior), and provides CDA assessment preparation. It also counts toward an Arizona ECE endorsement. COURSE ATTENDANCE: Two absences will result in a drop. You are responsible for all materials missed when absent; class notes and assignments must be obtained from classmates. Handouts can be obtained from instructor. Absences MAY be excused if instructor is notified ahead of time and missed assignments are handed in on the first day you are back in class. You are expected to arrive on time and remain for the duration of the class meeting time. It is imperative students participate in class discussions and activities as each class meeting generates a grade for attendance and participation. This cannot be made-­‐up! Journal: (5 pts X 15 journal assignments) -­‐Document your learning experience with regards to early childhood education.
