Message from Nia Love, Chorographer and Educator: www.Nia-Love.org Photos by Joan Ulmer, Administrative Assistant Sarah, I was completely thrilled by the sharing that manifested with students, Ron, MaPo and you! I live for these moments when the notion of dance/movement and art co-exists in the presence of witnessing. How I wish that opportunities could exists more and more like this one, as we move without trepidation towards new constructs of knowledge, integration, and personhood! I feel that Ron was the first person I encountered in almost 20 years since my father’s passing that I could find a space to reside without explanation, without doubt...he feels like home to me and just in a time when I felt all as lost. I felt at home with him and with you and MaPo. All of you reside in a space of kind of memory where my father moves, breathes, walks, stands an ultimately lives—XUArt Department/Art Spaces… Thank you again for your kindness and sisterhood space you help to create during my time at Xavier! to continue our relationship in the future. I hope *Dr. Sarah A. Clunis, Director of AADS | Thank you for sharing this beautiful message with us! Message from Jennifer Odem, Sculptor & XUArt Instructor: “The first day, Xavier Sculpture students went to the nature trail in Poydras to make drawings, take notes and make observations about the characteristics of the site. We then formed three groups based on our findings and created site-specific installations which were all interconnected. The students were ultimately engaged with art and sculpture outside of the traditional studio and created finished works within a weeks time. Collaboration with each other as well as the trail itself was the primary focus of the project. The artworks became part of an ongoing exhibition at the Crevasse 22 Sculpture Park in Poydras hosted by CANO. For the Tower Project, students were asked to design a sculptural tower based on Invisible Cities, a book by Italo Calvino which explores the travels of Marco Polo. The students worked in teams of two and the towers could be no less than ten feet. Students learned the basics of wood-working, architectural structure, and collaborative problem solving.” *Follow Dr. Kim Vaz-Deville @vazdeville, ‘tweets’...
