HumanaVitality FAQs ® HumanaVitality makes it easy, fun and straightforward for members to make positive health changes. What does this mean for employees? For starters – healthier, happier employees. But more importantly – higher productivity, lower healthcare costs and fewer sick days. What is HumanaVitality? HumanaVitality is a comprehensive wellness solution that integrates rewards with healthy living and provides the tools and support to help Humana members achieve healthier lives. Based on proven research, members who engage in HumanaVitality significantly lower claims costs compared to all other members and non-members. The more members engage with the program, the more opportunities they have to earn incentives and get healthier. How does Humana define “well-being” and “wellness”? Humana is committed to health and wellness and helping people achieve lifelong well-being. While wellness refers to one’s physical, emotional and spiritual health, well-being goes further – it’s about purpose, security and a sense of belonging. How does HumanaVitality work? HumanaVitality is a comprehensive wellness and rewards program. A key element of the program is a sophisticated health-behavior-change model supported by an actuarially sound incentive system. HumanaVitality tracks healthy behaviors, aggregates them, makes suggestions and records each behavior to motivate change. It also tracks activity via Vitality PointsTM, which convert to Vitality Bucks® and can be redeemed for rewards. Who is eligible for HumanaVitality? HumanaVitality is offered to Humana group members. HumanaVitality.com Can eligible members opt out of HumanaVitality? Members can choose not to participate, but one of the biggest benefits members receive is immediate access to offerings and incentives for doing simple activities and making healthier choices that can help them lead healthier lives. What are the true benefits of HumanaVitality? One of the differentiators of HumanaVitality is that every activity can be tracked and verified. HumanaVitality rewards participating members for making healthy choices, like getting preventive screenings and health checkups, exercising regularly, eating healthy and quitting smoking. What makes HumanaVitality different from other wellness rewards programs? Vitality Bucks are accumulated through trackable activity reporting, rather than self-reported data, for members of all ages. Children can earn Vitality Bucks toward their family’s rewards, and all participants – regardless of physical health – begin at the same level. Upon registration, each member will complete their Health Assessment and receive their Vitality AgeTM based on their health status, along with personalized support to help them improve their health. What does Humana mean by “trackable activity reporting”? Information will be gathered through automatic data feeds sent from participating partners, such as gyms and doctors. In addition, members also can document their activities on HumanaVitality.com and track their progress by syncing fitness devices with their personal profile. This data gets translated into Vitality Points and Vitality Bucks that can be redeemed for rewards. Is a member’s personal information protected? The information collected is kept confidential as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HumanaVitality may share an individual employee’s Vitality Status® level or aggregated reporting data with an employer. Employers never see a member’s personal health information, such as health screening results or how a member achieved their status. Do people who are healthier at the start of the program benefit more than those who aren’t? All HumanaVitality participants begin at the same level and receive rewards for participation and sustained engagement in the program. What rewards can a Humana member earn? Members can use their Vitality Bucks to earn rewards like movie tickets, iTunes gift cards, Amazon.com gift cards and Apple products. Plus they can even make charitable donations using their Vitality Bucks. HumanaVitality.com How is this program related to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Wellness Alliance for Workplace Health, in which Humana is involved? Humana’s commitment to lifelong health and well-being begins at home with our associates. Healthy people are happier and more productive. Through the WEF Wellness Alliance for Workplace Health, Humana is encouraging companies to take a stand on improving workplace health and well-being, and HumanaVitality offers companies a tangible solution to help employees make healthy choices. Will HumanaVitality cause commercial and individual members’ premiums to increase? While the cost of all features, including HumanaVitality, is built into Humana’s health plan premiums, wellness programs have been shown to reduce overall healthcare costs. In April 2014, Humana released findings from the HumanaVitality Health Claims and Productivity Impact Study of 16,000+ Humana employees. The comprehensive study, conducted by HumanaVitality actuaries, found improved health, as shown through lower healthcare costs and fewer unscheduled absences, among associates who actively participated in the HumanaVitality program. Three Key Findings Emerged from the Study: • U nengaged members in both years of the study had on average $53 higher claims costs per member per month than members who were engaged in HumanaVitality both years.* • T he largest impact on healthcare costs was on members with lifestyle-related chronic conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Engaged members with these conditions had 60 percent lower health claims costs than those who were unengaged.** • U nscheduled absences were 56.3 percent higher with unengaged members than engaged members in both years.*** Can employers opt out of HumanaVitality? Although members will automatically have access to the HumanaVitality program, all members can choose whether they want to participate or not. HumanaVitality.com *Guidelines for the use of claims data for wellness program evaluation recommend a minimum of three years of program exposure. HumanaVitality will publish the Year 3 results of this study in 2015. ** Unengaged members with lifestyle-related chronic conditions had 101 percent higher claims costs than the total population, while engaged members with these chronic conditions had 41 percent higher claims costs than the total population. *** Unscheduled Paid Time Off (PTO) hours were used to define absenteeism.
