Evidence-based Programs for Juvenile Offenders: Why Not Use All the Evidence? Mark Lipsey, Ph.D. Prevention Research Center Presentation Wednesday, March 30, 2011 Abstract In conventional usage, "evidence-based programs" generally means brand name model programs that have been certified by some group as showing positive effects in one or more credible studies. However, there are many more studies of generic or 'home grown' programs that meet any given evidence standard than there are of the manualized brand name programs widely touted as evidence-based. This talk will present an approach that uses meta-analysis to incorporate all the available experimental and high quality quasi-experimental evidence when identifying evidence-based programs for juvenile offenders.
