Opportunities
Problem Solving Workshop
The problem solving workshop is an
interactive, hands-on session designed to
develop the skills associated with tackling
open-ended
mathematics
problems.
Participants will work both individually and in
teams to solve some classic problems, but
there will also be a focus on newer photobased problems.

Maths @ the Theme Park
This is an exciting day of mathematics activities based
around the rides and facilities at the theme park.
Teams compete against each other to get the most
correct answers and there is, of course, time to enjoy
the rides as well!
This activity can take place either at Drayton Manor or
Alton Towers and is designed to give students an
opportunity to utilise
e their maths skills in a real context.
The difficulty of the activities can be tailored for a
variety of ability ranges and the A-level
A
material
covers many of the modules from both Mathematics
and Further Mathematics.
NB – this cost does not cover transport
trans
or entry to the
theme park. The cost quoted is based on 60 students.
Mathematics and Magic
Interactive Lecture
This interactive lecture is suitable for
audiences of up to 150 students. A range of
magic tricks are demonstrated (with some
audience participation) and then the maths
behind the magic is revealed. The students
will learn about some statistics and
psychology as well as discover the link
between maths, beauty, magic and the
National Lottery. Any teachers observing the
lecture may find some useful starter activities
here...

Mathematics and Magic
Hands-on
on Workshop
 In this workshop, students will learn magic tricks that

depend on mathematical principles to work and will

have the opportunity to make their own resources and


to practice their skills. Card sequencing will be looked
at in detail as will the use of the Fibonacci Numbers in
creating magical illusions.
The ability to read body language combined with the
power of probability will be considered, and by the
end of this workshop, the students should be able to
perform some of their newly-learned
learned tricks to impress
their friends and family.
NB – all necessary resources will be supplied and the
number of participants is limited to 40.
Remote Learning for Parents
This is an exciting opportunity for schools to help
parents to support their children with mathematics.
Five 1-hour sessions will be delivered during the
evening directly to parents’ homes via the internet
and the exact content of the course will be agreed
in advance.
These sessions can be delivered in a semiinteractive format to as many as 100 parents
simultaneously.
Alternatively, fully-interactive
sessions can be delivered to as many as 12 parents
simultaneously using graphics tablets and headsets.
Duration: 5x1hour

Maths Trails Workshop
In
n this workshop, students will work in teams to
create maths trails based around their own
school environment. These trails will be printed
and laminated to be used as a resource for other
students.
The workshop can be tailored to focus on
specific areas of mathematics, but previous trails
have included fractions, shape, measures,
number and proof.
NB – the use of digital cameras and production of
the maths trails are included within the price. The
number of participants is limited to 30.
STEP Preparation Course
From January to June, we offer a weekly STEP
preparation course, which is held at the University
of Warwick. Each session is 2 hours in duration and
they are designed both to prepare students to sit
the exams and to give teachers knowledge of the
required mathematics. The sessions normally take
place on Wednesday afternoon from 4pm to 6pm.
