ResNet connection –
Apple Mac OSX
What do I need to connect?
To connect to the Resnet using a cable, your Apple Mac needs to have an ethernet network
card \ network port.
Some Macs only have wireless cards – if this applies to you, please see leaflet 12e.
Note: A modem will not work in residences. Other devices such as hubs & routers are
not allowed.
Connecting the cable
There should be a network cable provided in your room. The ethernet network port on your
Mac may appear next to an icon representing 3 computers connected together.
Plug one end of the network cable into the RJ45 port on your computer
and the other end into the wall outlet in your room. Ensure it is
connected firmly.
You have now established a physical connection to the network.
Select Ethernet on the left.
Make sure the Location is
set to Automatic
Configure needs to be set
to Using DHCP.
The IP Address, Subnet
Mask, Router field will be
automatically configured.
Click Apply to save the
configuration.
Check the proxy settings:
Still in Network settings,
click on Advanced then
select the Proxies tab.
Make sure all boxes in here
are blank (apart from ‘use
passive FTP Mode’), and
then click on the Apply
button.
If the laptop still fails to connect, please contact us, see below.
