College of Arts and Social Sciences Society: a student group concerned with extra-curricular activities which was founded in 1999. It includes eight specialized groups: • • Media Creativity Group from the Department of Information Department Geography and Environment Group from the Department of Geography • Social Work Group from the Department of Social Work • Social Vision Group from the Department of Sociology • Libraries and Information Technology Group from the Department of Information Studies • Tourism Group from the Department of Tourism • Arab Tongue Group from the Department of Arabic Language • Insight Creativity Group, concerned with activities run by blind students from all Departments. This group is supervised directly by the Assistant Dean for Training and Society Service, and by a faculty member from the College. Specialised groups are also supervised by academics and technicians from the Departments and fully supported by College Deanship and Administration and by all relevant units of the University • President of the Society and Heads of the Groups with their deputies are freely and directly elected by members of the groups by the end of the second semester of the academic year • Society's and groups' aims and management structure comply with university regulations university related to student activities. Despite the Society's focus on activities that serve students' specialisation, it also aims at caring for the entertainment of students, enhancing their skills and talents various fields such as theatre, music, painting, photography, literature, poetry, and volunteering to serve the community and in other activities. In addition, the Society through its groups, provides students with the opportunity to participate in various events and competitions run by educational institutions within and outside the Sultanate in order for them to gain experience and exchange knowledge in various fields.
