Work Experience Central Analytical and Applied Research Unit (CAARU) SEM/XRD Application Specialist 2006-Present Am responsible in operating the new model of Panalytical X-ray diffraction (XRD) which is a high resolution XRD and the new Jeol field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) beside the old SEM (Jeol 840A). Preparing samples for the XRD and SEM, discussing results with clients and making reports. Performing routine maintenance on the instruments and related equipment like chiller, carbon coating, gold coating, etc. Currently am leading the Material Sciences team in the unit which is also my research main interest. Am involved in several projects within and outside SQU dealing with analyzing samples by XRD and SEM. Samples varies from biological samples, polymer, soils, rocks, thin films, steels, alloys, cements, ceramics, etc. In addition to research samples, I also analyze samples from industry as part of the services the unit offer to industry within and outside Oman. Earth Sciences Department Senior Technician 1999-2011 I was appointed in the department as the responsible of operating SEM (Jeol 840A) and the X- ray Diffraction. Since my appointment I had intensive training in both SEM and XRD. I was assisting researchers, undergraduate and postgraduate students in their work related to SEM and XRD. I was part of the Cryogenic SEM project between PDO, Earth Science Department (College of Sciences) and College of Engineering. The project dealt with analysis core samples by using Cry-SEM. In 2006, I have been nominated to represent Earth Science Department in CAARU beside my duties in Earth Science Department till 2011 when became officially and fully transferred to CAARU. Additional Skills and Capabilities I design and conduct training courses and workshops on XRD and SEM for candidates outside as well as inside the SQU. I also have some knowledge in operating the X-Ray Fluorescence in the unit. Beside my technical abilities, I also do some administrative work in assisting CAARU In-Charge as well as deputizing her duties in her absence. Workshops and Training 1.
