X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is a powerful ultra-high
vacuum technique capable of probing the elemental composition and
surface chemistry of materials. Originally founded in fundamental
surface science, the technique has gained popularity in a variety of
different fields, leading to over 9000 publications in 2015 alone. Here
we highlight just a few of the branches of modern science to which
XPS has been applied at the Warwick Photoemission Facility [1],
ranging from nanoparticles and semiconductors to drug molecules and
biocatalysis via a series of interesting case studies. The presentation
will also highlight the equipment portfolio of the Facility and outline
how to access the instruments.
