Planning Model and
Strategic Plan Update
We will cover:
 The planning model – how our plans link
 Update on the status of the Strategic Plan
 Review and discussion of strategic
planning themes and issues
The Planning Process

CR’s integrated planning model (IPM):
◦ Identifies requests for furniture and equipment, facilities,
technology, library materials, student services support,
and staffing at the unit level
◦ Unit-level needs are based upon outcomes assessment
data and program review
◦ The model links program review to planning and budget

Insert IPM here.
The Planning Process –
Limitations of the IPM
The IPM is operational (not strategic)
 The IPM is annual in nature (not multi-year)
 The IPM simply links program review to budget
and planning and does not meaningfully address
strategic initiatives
 The IPM has limited impact (only links plans with a
budget impact, does not address needs for other
planning e.g. related to curriculum, policy &
procedure, cross-functional planning, etc.)


CR’s Strategic Plan

Identifies broad, overarching, 5-year goals

Specifies measurable objectives within each
goal (more annual in nature)
CR’s Education Master Plan

The Education Master Plan incorporates the
goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan into
specific initiatives.
Functional Plans
Functional plans implement the initiatives
identified in the education master plan and
support the goals and objectives in the strategic
plan.
Unit-Level Plans
Individual units (instructional and service areas)
develop plans based upon assessment results and
program review.
