Call to Order- Rachel Anderson, Keith Snow-Flamer, Vinnie Peloso, and Erin
8.
Approve October 19 Notes*- Change heading so it has notes instead of agenda
9.
Action Items
3.1 Approve Fall Basic Skills Proposals
3.1.1 Upward Bound
Ask Upward Bound to identify a cohort for persistence and retention.
Looks like they are using a similar model to EOPS to assist these students.
In the assessment plan report to BSC in May instead of a survey in May
ask them to make hold a convocation session for Fall 2013.
(Approved)
3.1.2 First Year Experience
We’d like a report out in Spring 2013, in February, when schedules are
being developed. (Approved)
3.2 Appoint BSC Rep to First Year Experience Steering Committee
The committee appointed Rachel Anderson
10.
Discussion Items
4.1 Information on English Department request for conference funds
2
Dave Holper sent in request for 4 faculty to attend English Acceleration
Conference. Didn’t require official vote since it is a 3CSN conference and the
committee has already set aside funds for 3CSN sponsored conferences.
4.2 Update on First Year Experience Proposal Discussion with Math and English
Went to English and Math faculty and cc’d to Art as well. Appears well received
so FYE can move forward with Steering Committee
4.3 Mendo Math Lab issues- There was a question about others being able to use
the MacBook mobile cart that was funded for math through BSI funds.
Committee decided it is okay for others to use that cart as long as it doesn’t
interfere with basic skills math usage. Possibly have Richard Ries give Geisce a
use schedule.
4.4 English Issues
Dave Holper would like to hear back about English Tutoring for Grammer. Keith
is waiting to hear back from MaryGrace regarding funding in the past. She has
been out sick all week. Also, English wants consideration regarding expanding
the Writing Center into “dead space” in library. Keith is talking with MaryGrace
about putting this in her program review. Rachel will talk with Dave Holper
about putting this in the English program review as well.
4.5 Update Math Jam ProposalErin talked with Mike Butler and Fortuna is included in the outreach. There may
have been a PC-to-Mac issue with the form. Also, the Math Department is
considering using the Math Jam courses as part of an Acceleration project. It is
still however in the discussion phase.
11. Reports
10.1 2010-12 BSI Funds Update- $5,800 this year’s funds and $50,000 from next
year’s funds. This doesn’t count what we approved today. May want to bring some
one in from 3CSN for flex days before Spring. Vinnie is going to talk with 3CSN
folks about a good person to invite.
12. Adjournment
