May 5, 2014 Assessment Process and Actions 2013-2014 – Year Review (Outline) Accomplishments: Development and approval of ILOs and an ILO assessment process (including new survey tools). Development and implementation of new online assessment tools: course level planning and PLO mapping. Development of instructions and flow charts to describe the assessment process. Dialogue Sessions: GE Dialogue resulting in addition of Area E under GE, and the proposal to require English 102/150 for all GE courses are a result of those sessions. Placement testing dialogue session resulting in better communication between student services and discipline areas and potential changes to placement testing procedures. Financial Aid dialogue. Workshops and trainings. Establishing the roles of faculty and Deans in the assessment process - ongoing Challenges: Role of faculty and Deans in the assessment process. Tracking completion of course assessments (in accordance with plans) on a semester or yearly basis. Coordination of assessing multi-section courses taught at multiple campuses. Completion of program-level assessments to accomplish a two-year cycle of assessment. Keeping course planning and program mapping pages up to date. Integrating Student Services and Instructional Assessments. Stream-lining the assessment process to fit into faculty work loads. The degree of detail provided in the "findings" sections of the assessment reports (“unevenness” of reports). Closing Loops and the general process of opening and closing assessment loops.
