REDWOODS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT Meeting of the Assessment Committee Room FM 112, Eureka Campus: 7351 Tompkins Hill Road, CCC Confer from Del Norte and Mendocino Campus Monday, April 7, 2014 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Minutes 1. Merging of some degree and certificate assessment areas - where degree and certificate courses are the same (plus or minus GE). This was a discussed at the last Program Review meeting. The committee discussed the similarities of outcomes for some degree and certificate programs and the need to duplicate assessment reports of the same outcomes. However, the merging of reports would need to be done on a case-by-case basis because some certificates may have different outcomes or a different number of outcomes. A suggestion was made to have a “trigger” within the form that would allow a duplicate certificate report to be created. This might be an alternative to merging, and may allow a certificate with fewer outcomes to share the degree assessment reports in cases where both degree and certificate are the same. We will return to this issue after discussing this with IT in terms of available options. 2. Dialogue Sessions - what's next? Financial Aid and Professional Development? The Financial Aid dialogue session is scheduled for 11am Friday April 18. We will evaluate the need for additional dialogue sessions this semester after this one is held. There may be a conflict between holding LMS review sessions and dialogue sessions. 3. Use of the planning pages. Many disciplines have incomplete assessment planning pages. The Assessment Coordinator will send out a reminder regarding use of the assessment planning page. Some areas have not completed plans beyond Spring, 2014 and a few disciplines do not have any planning boxes checked. A follow-up memo will also be sent to Deans and Directors. 4. Closing the loop process and form changes? The committee agreed that our current “closing the loop” process should be modified to continue documentation of improvement, but to make it easier to use. The concept discussed is to have a portion of the course assessment form that asks the authors to review the previous assessment of the outcome and then a space to reflect on the impact of changes made based on that previous assessment. The committee also discussed if it would be possible for the “findings” from the previous assessment to be automatically posted in the new report. This would make it easier to reflect on the findings from the past. 5. Assessment related convocation sessions? Program-Level Assessment reporting, ILO Dialogue, Other? - Assessment Basics? The committee suggested the following assessment-based Convocation sessions: 1. Program-Level Assessment report workshop. 2. ILO Dialogue session (entire college). 3. Assessment basics for new faculty and those with questions about the process. In addition, the assessment coordinator will participate in the Associate Faculty Orientation sessions, which occur the week after convocation or a few days before at the branch campuses.
