Went to ON COURSE National Conference and learned a lot on how to incorporate a variety of techniques into the classroom that apply to all basic skill courses, general studies, guidance, DSPS, counseling and advisors. Need to develop results from conference and workshop into a comprehensive form and present to specific faculty first to get feedback as to whether it could be a flex workshop for a broader base. bob-brown@redwoods.edu May 3, 2012 4:04 PM 7 ...don't have any idea about a topic, really. I just didn't want to check "no" because I would be happy to help out with a FLEX workshop presentation if asked. I guess I'd feel comfortable facilitating discussion about managing time in the classroom, structuring and grading written work, or especially teaching history online. May 3, 2012 4:24 PM 16 Writing across the curriculum May 3, 2012 4:14 PM 17 First, if the faculty are good at what they are presenting it works. My experience with round tables has been negative. People that aren't so great... sometimes take over and monopolize because they can gain control and recognition this way. Just because a person has taught for a number of years does not mean that they are an expert. May 3, 2012 3:59 PM 18 Active learning activities for large lecture format classes. General comments: 1 Thanks. May 10, 2012 4:04 PM 2 Evenings would be ok except as my teaching schedule makes it impossible for me to attend. May 7, 2012 8:38 PM 3 Center for teaching excellence / institute for faculty development is still very much needed on this campus - great disconnect - so much collaborative potential - no one is above becoming a better instructor . . . May 7, 2012 2:10 AM 4 Most of my flex time is earned conducting outside research activities and professional meetings, however, I am committed to seeing that CR retains it's accreditation. May 6, 2012 5:18 PM 5 The past few years there appears to be an assumption that online training is preferred, and I would like to state that I reject that notion. May 4, 2012 8:10 AM 6 We need College Hour (or the equivalent) May 4, 2012 2:56 AM 7 schedule depends on class assignment which has not yet been determined. May 3, 2012 9:40 PM 8 *** I checked one item aboveso that I could complete the survey*** (see below) I wouldn't know what time(s)/day(s) work for me unless you identify a semester or specific months/days???? May 3, 2012 4:48 PM 9 Please reopen the Center for Teaching Excellence. Don't just put bandaids on flex activities. Such actions will likely be utterly insufficient to what we really need as teachers. May 3, 2012 4:14 PM 10 We need to reach out to our part-time faculty! Teaching methodology courses would be an excellent opportunity for them! Just because they are an expert in their field does not mean they can teach! May 3, 2012 3:59 PM 11 Afternoon=after 4:25pm. I teach from 10am-4:25pm M-Th. Fridays I'm free after 1:15pm May 3, 2012 3:35 PM 12 I have so much time at conferences and outside professional activities that I have no need for CR flex activites May 3, 2012 3:19 PM 13 I'd like to see a presentation from EMC and Admin on how we build a schedule that fits the needs of students. I'd like to see how we determine likely income due to the schedule. I'd like to see how we determine likely cost to teach the schedule. I'd like to see that we can afford the cost. May 3, 2012 2:51 PM 14 NONE May 3, 2012 2:49 PM 15 The time slots vary from semester to semester in terms of my availability. I already accumulate flex hours from things that I do off campus. I always get to at least 100 hours before I just stop and turn in the form. So--I don't really need to fill flex time from seminars that are offered on campus. May 3, 2012 2:44 PM 17 of 18 Q11.
