8/23/12 Community Partnerships What can we accomplish this year with the limited resources we have? Where did we gather the information to address the needs of the community? 



Advisory Committees Program Reviews Institutional Effectiveness Summit Assessment Summit Past DOL grant gave us direction to develop new partnerships with community Non‐credit doesn’t make sense today with the need for cap and credit courses Credit, Non‐credit, Not‐for‐credit (Community Education) VITA ‐ Redwood Community Action Agency…volunteer income tax for Del Norte and Humboldt counties…taught by community members…a partnership…possible future certificate…RCAA provides stipend for instructor. Re: pg 21 Strategic Plan What Potential Actions Plans to complete within the next 21 months Need to provide data and study the community needs…We need to talk to industry and business… Re: (Julia P.) 

Targets of Opportunity …also working with Dennis Mullen and labor market data for growing industries in Humboldt. We need to add a Home Aid/Health Aid training More new hire/retraining this year going on. What programs and training are we providing, or planning on providing in the next 12 months? Short term vocational training can be option…faculty driven. Contractor driven polling for specialty training, community projects, community business material donations and collaboration. California Conservation Corps. Specialty training…grant funded, industry funded, project funded training Paul Kinsey teaches OSHA in community Jeff suggests that we meet on a regular basis to meet with community and business to develop training based on community needs. Paul K. suggests that we teach reactively to grants, or special ideas…without going out into the community and teaching to their needs. Advisory committee meeting minutes need to drive us better. Advisory committees are specifically focused on particular areas of focus, and not the community in general. Jobs and economic data, targets of opportunity reports are done, have data, and are useful for information. Smog certification program is an example of where industry data and survey work didn’t work. The cost of Smog Certification flopped because there isn’t a buy in with this specialty program. Dean Jeff to President Kathy…community forums planned? Not currently (accreditation is essential), but in different communities she has had president forums with community members and leaders. President Kathy has an idea…district attorney has an idea of education vs. prison or minor offenders, probationers. Through and annual community summit develop training plan for specialty program training. Develop community training program opportunities in construction through community projects, using parolees, minor offenders, or group like CA. Conservation Corp. Students as a resource for community partnerships…those who are working out there in the job market may have ideas of connectivity with employers and CR programs. College of the Redwoods
