Meeting called to order 8:03 AM by the Chair. MSP to defer the Environmental Studies Program review to the 2003-04 academic year. MSP to defer the Economics Department review to the 2003-04 academic year. MSP to defer the Asian Studies Program review to the 2003-04 academic year. MSP to approve the following courses submitted for inclusion in the Scholarly and Creative Inquiry Core area: • Utopia/Dystopia (Breitenbach) • Salsa, Samba, and Soccer (Lear) • Industrial Economics and Sustainability (Sable) • Chinese Painting in the West (Hong) • The Broken Brain (Hannaford) • Evolution and Creationism in the US (Largent) • The Constitution in Crisis Times (Sousa) • Modernization and Social Change (Kontogeorgopoulus) • Religion in Philosophy and Literature (Stern) MSP to approve the following courses submitted for inclusion in the Writing and Rhetoric Core area: • Trauma and Memory (Kile) • Science in the News (Tullis) • Rhetoric of Adventure (Buescher) • Ideas and Arguments on Stage (Greenfield) Dean Barry suggested that some of the subcommittees be reduced in size, now that the bulk of the course proposals for inclusion in the new Core rubrics have been considered; this was acknowledged and agreed to by those present. MSP to include a Fall version of the ILACA Study Abroad program in Granada, Spain. This would be in addition to the long-standing Spring semester program, and would be identical to that program, except for the requirement that a faculty member from a Pacific Northwest member institution be a part of the on-site faculty. This passed, following a brief discussion of the financial or enrollment implications of this addition. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 AM. Respectfully submitted, Barry Goldstein
